Vehicle Detail
Very rare wonderful old car. Not many people have seen let alone driven one of these cars. Very low motor and body numbers making this an early production model. Not many of these great cars have survived the past 85 years and most are in Australia or New Zealand. This is a car that wins something every time I show it. It is an older restoration that still shows well. Was restored from the ground up in the mid 90's. Everything looks absolutely wonderful. Gray tweed interior, Gray body paint with Black fenders, running boards and top. Period correct Coker whitewalls with correct tread design (including spare). Model 70 with the light 6 cylinder Knight sleeve-valve engine that runs like a champ. This was billed as the engine you'll never wearout---gets stronger and quieter with use. 177.2 cid that puts out a whopping 53 horses. 3 speed manual transmission on the floor with the original anti-theft device (tranny lock). 4 door sedan, back doors are suicide. Rear passenger area heater grate in the floor (operates off the exhaust). All chrome is excellent, bumpers, radiator, all look great. It was in storage for many years so had to do alot of work to get her running. Now a 12v, electric fuel pump, modern fuel filter, upgraded copper plumbing and wiring. All outside lights work and have been upgraded. Fuel tank and all lines were cleaned and upgraded. Outside paint is better than average but starting to show its age. Absolutely NO rust anywhere. All the wood components are near perfect. Body is solid and straight with no signs of previous damage or corrosion repair. All fluids have been drained and replaced. Mechanical 4 wheel brakes (stops but need to be relined). Wheels are wood spoke (polished Hickory) painted to match the car. Original W-K running board steps. Interior is near perfect. All lights, switches and gauges work except the speedometer (no cable), Wiper arm is missing but was vacuum operated so that will need to be addressed if you plan on driving it in the rain. This car is as original as humanly possible. Runs and drives good at about 35-45 mph (I've never had it over that). This is a car for local shows, parades and cruise-ins. If you want a wonderful old car that no one else has this is the car for you. Retiring (again) very soon and can't take all this stuff i've collected. Any questions please ask before you bid. Car is located in Lake City, Fl. (N.Central) so transportation is bidders responsibility. I can help with logistics if needed. Deposit required within 24 hours of auctions end. Have the right to end auction if someone pops in with the cash. Have fun bidding---you won't regret it. On Feb-20-11 at 10:47:20 PST, seller added the following information: All glass is perfect, doors are hung right and don't sag at all. Under-carriage is as clean as the rest of the car. You will not find a cleaner 1926 W-K anywhere for twice the asking price. This car was invited to participate in the Hilton-Head Concourse de Elegance last year because of it's condition and rarity. You just don't see these cars very often and hardly ever in this condition. The Knight sleeve-valve engine makes this car extremely unique. Has no valves to grind or adjust, no carbon build up. The more you drive it the better it runs. Was a luxury vehicle in it's day during the "Roaring Twenty's" Willys was 2nd largest manufacturer next to Ford and most modeled their cars after this one. King George, King Alfonso, and the Barrymores all had one. Check out the magazine ads for sale on eBay and read about this wonderful car. On Feb-21-11 at 20:23:07 PST, seller added the following information: Also included in selling price is a few framed magazine ads from 1926 (original) that I use for car shows, owners manual, sales brosure for this model and 172 page Dealers Parts Catalog for Willys & Willys-Knight Motor Cars. A 2009 Custom made flatbed carhauler (16'x8.5') will be offered to the winning bidder at a more than reasonable price. Very nice unit, low profile, dual axle, spare tire/wheel & extra wide with removable fender for easy loading any car. Barely used at all----maybe 1000 miles on it. This has been relisted-----bidding got within a few hundred $ of the reserve. I could have sold the vehicle with a 2nd chance offer but the high bidder was in France. That's when I decided that this wonderful example of True American Automotive History belongs here in the United States where it was made. So I relisted it to sell only to U.S.Bidders. This wonderful old car still has alot of years left in her for someone to enjoy and share with Americans. This is a timeless piece of art-----with Un-matched American workmanship & quality.
