After driving it many times, we did not realize the problem. Once you drive this car for about an hour, and the transmission fully warms up, it causes problems. It slips out of gear and sometimes does not want to go into gear. Thus, we are selling this Bug as a Mechanics Special with a Known Problem. The dealer and another shop have both said that this car is a good candidate for a rebuilt transmission or for replacement, your choice. So, according to the dealer, it is rebuild-able. I would not anticipate driving this car any distance and you should plan to ship, trailer, or otherwise transport this car once you purchase it. This Beetle is truly a great car. The CARFAX shows there is NO accident or title issues and shows tons of service records. This car was a local trade and was on the used car retail lot of the local VW/Audi new car dealership. With only 110k miles, the full timing service performed, and in overall excellent condition, this VW is one step away from being a perfect car. FIRST IMPRESSION: At first glance, this Car is a Looker. I personally LOVE driving this car!! This car is in overall much better condition than I would expect from the year and miles. Any time of year is the perfect time for a convertible! But the top down and cruise and enjoy! As a modern interpretation of the original Beetle, the current model is a one-of-a-kind sporty convertible in a world filled with cookie-cutter sedans and coupes. The bubble-shaped lines give the four-seat New Beetle a strong visual link to the original. Whereas the original had an air-cooled rear engine and rear-wheel drive, the New Beetle is based on the Golf/Jetta platform and has a front engine and front-wheel drive. The color is described as Harvest Moon Beige. I would call this off white. It is Bright and shiny. You get a Beautiful Off White Body Exterior with Matching Cream Leather Interior which is a really nice color combination. This car looks sharp and turns heads. Overall, the outside of this car is just great, and is in much better condition than I would expect for a 2004 model! The outside body of this VW Beetle is in Great Condition. The beige paint is shiny and glossy! All Panels, Door Handles, and Trim are finished in coordinating beige. There are additional touches of Silver are the front and rear VW symbols. The Turbo scripted rear decal adds to the overall appeal and sharpness of this convertible. It makes this car look more like a Porsche. The overall consistency of color really adds to the appeal of this car. This VW is riding on a set of beautiful 16” alloy wheels with new tires. The tires are in great condition and just passed VA State Safety Inspection. The Headlights are clear and you also get a built in license plate holder. With 01/2012 inspection, this car is ready to go!! The New Beetle brought back a Classic. This New Beetle is a re-design of the classic car from the 70s. A fun rounded exterior body with a modern look makes for a fun car to drive. Modern day comfort and dependability allows you to relive the memories of the past while cruising with present day comforts. The rear of this VW Beetle looks cool too! The depth of the rear hatch and the bumper adds to the appeal of this sedan. You will find there is the VW emblem in the middle. There is a stationary antennae on the rear window. There is a built in license plate holder here. Overall, the Exterior Condition of this Beetle is in Excellent Condition. I do not see any indications of body or paint work. For a vehicle of this age and mileage it looks really good. The only thing I can mention on this car is are some typical road rash chips on the front bumper and lower hood area and some usually scuffs on the rear bumper of this car consistent with the age. I did not find anything else noteworthy or obvious or atypical for the year and miles. This car just looks great! CONVERTIBLE TOP: This 2004 New Beetle come complete with a Fully Power Convertible Top that is in Great Condition! The top is Cloth and Features a Full Cloth Headliner. This combination helps to reduce road or wind noise, and helps to maintain cabin temperature. You will find the top to be clear from any significant wear and is free from damage. The top is fully power and super easy to put up and down. Just the simple twist of the front lever and…… A push of the button …….. and the top is down and ready for cruising! There is a factory top boot / cover that is in excellent condition. It is super easy to put on and take off. It will fold easily and fits in the trunk. The rear window of this convertible top is glass. This is a nice upgrade for a convertible. This glass window also features defrost. The defrost is controlled with a switch on the front dash. I really like the way that the top goes down and lays flat when the top is down. This top looks very clean and finished looking without the need for a boot cover. Plus, this design looks very much like the original bug from the 70s and is a nice update on the original car. INTERIOR: Inside this Beetle you will find to be in Great Condition. Overall, the interior looks, smells and feels just great. You will find the inside to be in near perfect, excellent, better than average condition. The Interior is Beige/Cream Leather, matching the exterior color, and the dash is coordinating Black and Gray! All interior trim pieces, dash, and the like are a combination of gray and black. The seat upholstery is soft beige leather. The front seats are individual bucket style seats. These seats are very comfortable with high backs, solid moldings, and large supportive seat bottoms. Both front seats are multi point adjustable with recline. Both front seats also have height adjustable. The front seats are heated with multi point settings controls with independent dials on the front dash. You will notice that both front seats feature the flip forward feature that makes getting in and out of the back seat super easy. I actually noticed how easy it is to get out of the back seat without any assistance from anyone else. There is a handle on the outside, upper portion of each front seat that flips the seat forward easily with one hand. This is also great if you need to load items in or out of the back seat. The rear set is surprisingly roomy. You can seat 2 more adults back here. There is a lot more leg and head room that I expected back there! I rode in the back seat personally for over an hour and was surprisingly comfortable. There are dual headrests for the rear seat, too. I notice there is a small cubby on the side of each rear seat. The rear seat features a small door that allows access from the trunk into the back seat. This is designed to be used as a ski pass through. You flip open the door from the trunk and a second door from the rear seat. The carpets and front floor mats are also cream and in very good condition. You will not find any rips, tears, holes or burns inside this New Beetle. In true iconic VW fashion, there is a small vase on the front dash for a flower, or a pen, or whatever you find fits your personally style. Inside this Beetle, you will find lots of surprises and upgrades. There are Power Windows, with Driver 1 Touch Auto Power Up and Down on both front windows! Being a convertible, all four windows go up and down. There are also power door locks and 2 remote keyless entry fobs. This VW comes with 2 fobs and a spare, so three keys. With this remote entry you can lock, unlock and even pop the trunk from afar. There is Cruise Control, we tested and it works perfectly. There is a stalk on the steering wheel, left side, that controls the speed control. There is AC that blows cold and the air vents, for both heat and cold, are directionally and air flow adjustable. The exterior side view mirrors are also power adjustable from the driver's door. The driver side door has controls for all of the power windows and the door locks. You can also adjust the power mirrors here. The gas door and trunk remote release buttons are here on the bottom next to the cubby for storage. You can lock out the trunk and gas door for valet parking with confidence. You also get chrome door handles which look really sharp against the Cream Colored Interior. True to the New Beetle, the interior door panels have painted to match panels. Along the top of each door is a panel painted to match the external White color. This is subtle since the inside color matches the outside. The sound system in this New Beetle is great! You will find Factory In Dash CD Player and AM FM Tuner. The speakers are Monsoon upgraded and sound fantastic. They are crisp and clear. The center console also has a padded armrest which opens up for even more storage. The padding on the armrest is super comfortable, so much so, I took notice right away. On the rear view mirror are two digital displays. These display the time and external temperature. The glove box houses the owner's manual. The glove box is lighted and lockable. This VW comes with 2 sets of keys including the remote fobs and a spare key. The Overall Interior of this Car is Near Perfect. This car really Looks, Smells, and Feels Great! Overall the Interior of this Convertible Beetle GLS is well equipped and in better condition than I would expect. I usually see more wear and tear on a 2004 model car. This is a great car for anyone. Driving Impressions: This VW New Beetle Convertible drives with a known issue, the transmission needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Otherwise, we have driven this car several times and until the transmission warms up fully, it performs just great! We also had our shop confirm that the timing belt was just replaced on this car. The shop could see clear, bright writing on the timing belt that appears to be brand new. This car offers incredible gas mileage of 14.5-31 Miles Per Gallon so it is fun and practical! Under The Hood: This VW comes with the Turbo, Inline 4 Cylinder Engine. This car is surprisingly peepy and fun to drive. When you hit the gas pedal, this car responds! The 109 cubic inch engine produces 150 horse power at 5,800 rpm and 162 foot pounds of torque at 2,220 rpm. This is a DOHC, Dual Overhead Cam, Engine. The 14.5 gallon gas tank combines with mpg of 24-31 allowing you to drive and drive between fill ups. This car is the perfect combination of fun and function!
