Vehicle Detail

Here is an opportunity to own a very unique classic truck at a very good price. The needs of a new business forces sale of this unfinished beauty so someone will get a great deal. History: I believe this truck is originally from PA, I have some plates from a truck dealer in that state that I think were put on when it was fairly new. I haven't decoded the original color but it looks like it was that green that you still see on the rims and the seat cover. It was just a cab and chassis when I bought it, and the previous owner was intending to cut it in half and put it in a restaurant as a display piece! The truck had a running flathead 8, 3-speed manual, a solid frame, plus some restoration work had been done, so I bought it as a project several years ago and had it ever since. Body: The frame and body are very solid, no issues there at all. I invested approx. $6000 in paint and body work. The most unique part of this truck is the bed. I found in at a hot rod shop in upstate new york in extremely good original condition. The seller said it came off a 1953 Ford truck of the same wheelbase. There is a very good chance that these wood side-boards are quite old because they were put togetther with wooden pegs! Most of the wood pegs remain and some bolts have been added over the years for support. The wood was weathered but solid, I was able to carefully clean, preserve, and use every piece! Plus, I had all the original stake pocket trim and latches re-chromed, making this vintage flatbed truly unique. All the paint is done, just some of the finally assembly, trim, and sideglass has to be replaced. It has new front and rear glass, I just havent done the side glass yet. I can seal the side windows if the buyer needs to use open transport. I have lots of extra parts, body gaskets, etc. The front bumper is the only part that was not professionally painted. I painted it myself and intended to get a chrome one some day. As you can see, the rims haven't been painted yet either, they look to be original. The body and paint was a good quality job, and the truck has never been parked outside since or seen rain. The are some paint chips on the bed frame from getting bumped in the garage but thats it. The seat is still green and I have not put a headliner in yet, however, I have the interior door panels and they are painted red as well just not put in yet. Mechanical: The truck was parked outside with no air cleaner for a few months before I bought it. The seller who had intended on putting it in a restaurant did not do any work to it, however the owner before him apparently did some work. Water had gotten in the engine while it was outside so I changed fluids several times, cleaned the carburator, tuned it up, and completed a 12 volt conversion. I had a compression test done and all cylinders were good. The truck currently starts right up and sounds good. I have never had it registered or driven down the road, just around my yard. I cannot guarentee that the engine may not need work. My intention was to road test it once it was complete but unfortunately I need some funds for my new business so that is why I'm selling. The 3-speed transmission (on the floor) works great as does the clutch. The brakes work good, it has new exaust, new shocks up front, and I have new shocks for the rear (one of the rear shock mounting bolts has to be fixed or replaced before it can be put on). The radiator looks pretty original but seems to hold fluid ok. It has all new lights up front but there not all hooked up. I have a new wire harness up front as well for the 12v conversion. The guages are orignal plus I have some modern guages as well. It has the factory heater core too. Like I said the truck runs, yard drives, and stops, but will need to be trailered because the lights aren't all hooked up yet and the tires are dry. All of the expensive body and paint are done, it just needs the body assembly completed, wiring, and tires, etc. Its not ready to be driven down the road just yet. Because this is a project that is not quite finished, I am selling it with a very fair reserve (the reserve is confidential) I am basically looking to recover my paint & body costs plus the rechroming of the bed parts. When this truck is done, that vintage flatbed will make it a one-of-a-kind at cruise nights, or the perfect marketing piece for farms or produce stands (Just please don't cut it in half!!!) It is sold as-is with no warranty, potential buyers are welcome to make an appt. to inspect it or request more info. CT does not have titles on antique vehicles so it will be sold with a valid CT Q-1 Bill of sale. I may be able to assist with both open or closed transport within New England for a fee, just contact me with a zip code. I will be sorry to see this baby go but someone will get a very unique Ford truck! Email or contact John at 860-377-0700.
