The Ford Torino was first produced by the Ford Motor company in 1968. Described as "Ford's newest bright idea", the all new Torino was created to be the new brand of Ford beauty, power and style. The Torino was designed with these new looks to appeal to a whole new generation of car buyers.
The Torino sleek fastback design has excellent aerodynamics that proved to be advantageous on the race track and very sucessful in stock car racing. In Car Life magazine's test of a 1968 Torino GT Sports Roof equipped with a 390-4V, C-6, and 3.25:1 axle, they recorded a 0 - 60 mph time of 7.7 seconds, and the quarter mile time of 15.8 seconds at 90 mph. Motor Trend magazine wrote "Putting the car through quick and/or tight corners isn't a matter of practiced art - it's more like second nature for the GT" in their test of a 1968 Torino GT.
Our dark blue metallic 1968 Ford Torino GT has the Fastback or Sports Roof. There are only 28,000 original miles on the odometer.
It has a powerful big block 390 cu in V-8 engine coupled to the optional 4 speed manual transmission and a 3 to 1 rear end. The clutch is worn but functional. The engine has only 11,000 miles on it since being rebuilt. The motor sports a Holley 4 barrel carburetor with a chrome air cleaner and an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold. It is equipped with dual exhausts running from a set of headers.
The dashboard features four equally sized round pods centered around the steering wheel containing an assortment of warning lights along with the speedometer and fuel gauge. Our car has the optional tachometer.
The wheels are 14 inch American Racing mags with BF Goodrich TA Radials.
The car was repainted in the original color in 1983 with the optional C stripe that was unique to the GT. The finish is ready for some care. There are cracks in the paint and some rust spots. The drivers door latch sticks and takes some jiggling to get it open. There are minor dents (half dollar size) on the right front fender and the left side of the trunk below the window.. The radio antenna is broken as well.
The interior is in decent shape but the front seat is torn (see photo) and the carpet is stained and should be replaced.
