1953 Bentley R-Type Saloon Steel Body -RHD No Reserve!!! For a human being, 58 years is a good amount of time, but to an automobile it’s an eternity! The ravages of time aren’t just from nature. Tastes change, trends die, and once-envied designs have a way of looking absurd. Once in a while though, an automobile endures despite all this, and ultimately, becomes a classic. That car is 1953 Bentley R-Type Saloon!! After the World War II Rolls Royce resumed car production with the Bentley Mark VI, which in 1952 evolved into the R-Type. Departing from the custom coach bodes of the pre-war era, the first post World War II cars were factory fitted with steel coach work. A limited number of Mark VI, and R’s were re-badged with Rolls-Royce grills and marketed as Silver Dawns. The R-Type was known as the “big bore and big boot” sports saloon which was advertised as “The Silent Sports Car – To be driven by its owner!!” A 4.6 Liter straight six-cylinder engine with four-speed floor shift makes the car very responsive and fun to drive. Up for auction is a timeless 1953 Bentley R-Type Saloon! During its course of production, between 1952-1955 there were only 2,323 Bentley’s R-type’s built, and this beauty is one of them. What makes this Bentley special is that 1953 is the last year that offered 4-speed manual transmission which made this car nimble and more fun to drive, as later cars were offered with less desirable automatic transmission. This Bentley is ALL COMPLETE and ALL ORIGINAL and it makes a perfect candidate for a restoration! It comes with all the documents dating to September of 1963 when this car was purchased and Imported to United States by its Second Owner who owned it for 30+ years! Car has been off the road since 1974, and it has been stored in dry storage ever since. It is all complete down to its original British License Plate (NYT 848) that is documented on the Import paperwork, tool set, including the hubcap wrench, jack, hand-cranks, and pump for inflating tires!! (Please See Pictures). All numbers are documented, and matching (Chassis # B538TN, and Motor # B469T) Mechanical restoration started in mid 1990’s where the bottom end of the motor was rebuilt including new pistons and rings (over $3,800 in parts from Bentley – invoice included), and new exhaust was installed. Engine head will need to be put together and all parts including the valves are there for it to be completed! Since this Bentley has been South Georgia and Florida car almost its whole life, car is in very nice and solid condition. Except for the small patches of rust on the bottom of the rear fenders, car is very solid (please see pictures). Undercarriage is nice and solid, including the floorboards (please see pictures) Body is very nice and straight, and all body panels align nicely and correctly. Suicide-Style Doors, hood, and trunk lid are all operating with ease, and windows are rolling up and down without any problems. All glass is complete, clear, and without any cracks. Beside its elegant and desirable Black over Maroon interior color combination, this Bentley is equipped with optional factory sunroof, which is operating with ease. Chrome is all complete. Grill looks wonderful without any dings or dents in it and it is complimented with its “Flying B” symbol. Headlights are complete as well, and look wonderful after all those years! Interior is all complete, down to its cigarette lighter, and foot-resets. Interior wood is all there, and it just needs to be refinished to shine in its full glory. This beautiful antique Bentley will only continue to appreciate in its value, and with time, these cars are harder and harder to come by. This car is great investment, which will only continue to appreciate in its value, definitively better than any stock at this time!!!!!
