Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is my beloved '68 Firebird. I have had this for 7or 8 years and it is the 4th bird I've owned. i have the PHS document on this and it was a 350 three speed when it came off the assembly line. it was also teal inside and out. A previous owner switched it to a 400 with 4 speed. It is a Pontiac 400, not chevy or olds. The motor sounds incredible. It has a nice growl to it and a mild cam that makes it have a slightly lumpy idle. I do not kow the grind on the cam. I had the motor out when I first got it to replace the rear main seal. other than that, I just painted the engine compartment, put a new clutch in and put the engine back in. Ive replaced or rebuilt jsut about everything. The car was media blasted to bare metal. the pillar posts we rebuilt with metal, no bondo. the quarter panels were replaced with metal, no bondo. Facing the rear, there is a crack on the lower left side of the back window. i have no idea why i allowed bondo to be used there and i truly regret it. That is the only place wear there is any putty other than tiny surface pitting that got filled. There is a photo of the crack. Car has all new weather stripping. The entire front end is new. Fenders, inner fenders, hood are all new. the cowl is original and was rebuilt with metal. I could not find a suitable replacement cowl so we rebuilt the old on. The scoops are open but it is not set up for ram air. All the chrome is new. Check out the bird glass. Those of youth are true firebird nuts will know this is an oddity. Only '68s had it and very few at that. The interior is all new BUT not done. i have everything except the headliner. all the pieces are new. Check the photos and you'll see the sail panels are missing and there is a hack job around the radio. Sail panels are new and come with car, you put them in. the radio area was a bit of a brain fart on my part. i put the cd player in, planning to ahve a face plate made up. then i saw other people have the radios mounted in the glove box. i was i had thought of that. Anyhow, you'll need to make up a face plate for around the radio. The headliner is new however mice love my car as much as i do. they chewed through one part, made a nest and then chewed an exit on the other side of the headliner. i have been battling mice since i bought the car. A new headliner costs about $125 and if you have it installed professionally, it may go $225. i'd get the sails panels installed, too. $500 finishes the interior. You may have noticed the five point drag racing harnesses in the back. i got this car as a family toy to take kids for ice cream and stuff like that. we had a blast. Car seats do not fit well in old firebirds so i put the drag racing harnesses in. Oh, the passenger side rear interior panel is off. i have it and it is new. You can install it. i just dont have the time or interest anymore. The motor is a Pontiac 400 with mild cam, hooker headers, holley 4bbl (i want to say it is a 650 but i can not remember for sure). I do not know the transmission. It is not a Rock Crusher. Tranny will occasionally, rarely, but occasionally pop out of fourth gear. This only happens when i really romp on the car, then back off the gas. If my hand is still resting on the stick, it wont happen. Im not a mechanic so i have no idea why this is happening. It is slightly annoying but it is also a quirk that i could live with. I want to be an honest seller. The rear is a Dana 60 with 3.73 posi. it looks cool. the car was lowered when i bought it. i got very tired of being a street sweeper. It picked up dead animals, tree branches and holes in teh headers from speed bumps or any debris in the road. I raised the car back to normal ride height and have no problems. new coils up front and relocation the perches on the rear. The car came with a fuel cell in the trunk. it was a cheap plastic one so i swapped it out with new aluminum one. i put a fire wall in, too. The car has the battery in the rear and a kill switch in the gas filler door. it was raced by the previous owner. i was told that it will run 13.50s all day long. i never raced it. wheels are Cragar SST with new firestone radials. i have put about 500 miles on it per year. i love this car but between crappy economy, some loss of interest and absolutely no time to work on it, i have decided it is time to let someone else have fun with it. i have a reserve but it is semi negotiable. i dont want to let this car go for a low bid but i will entertain all offers. i will not end the auction early, either. if you are local, feel free to contact me to see it in person however we will not drive it until there is not any salt on the roads and that may be april. if you buy it, you can drive it on salty roads. While i still own it, it will not see rain or snow. it has never been in the rain since i have had it. i have only driven it on very clean roads. thanks for your interest, i will answer every question as quickly as i can.
