FIRST IMPRESSION: At first glance, this Car is a Looker. I personally LOVE driving this car!! This car is in overall much better condition than I would expect from the year and miles. While this car shows the type of usual wear I would expect for a 1998 model car, it shows a lot less wear than it could and than I would usually expect. As a modern interpretation of the original Beetle, the current model is a one-of-a-kind sporty hatchback in a world filled with cookie-cutter sedans and coupes. The bubble-shaped roof gives the four-seat New Beetle a strong visual link to the original. Whereas the original had an air-cooled rear engine and rear-wheel drive, the New Beetle is based on the Golf/Jetta platform and has a front engine and front-wheel drive. EXTERIOR: The Exterior of this VW New Beetle is just Awesome! It is a Bright Red, so you get a Beautiful Red Body Exterior and Gray Sport Cloth Interior which is a really nice color combination. This car looks sharp and turns heads. Overall, the outside of this car is just great, and is in better condition than I would expect for a 1998 model! The outside body of this VW Beetle is in Great Condition. The red paint is shiny and glossy! All Panels, Door Handles, and Trim are finished in coordinating red. Touches of Silver are the front and rear VW symbols. The overall consistency of color really adds to the appeal of this car. This VW is riding on a set of Factory Alloy Wheels and Great Condition Tires. The tires are in great condition and just passed VA State Safety Inspection. The Headlights are clear and you also get a built in license plate holder. There are front fog lights. With 12/2011 inspection, this car is ready to go!! The New Beetle brought back a Classic. This New Beetle is a re-design of the classic car from the 70s. A fun rounded exterior body with a modern look makes for a fun car to drive. Modern day comfort and dependability allows you to relive the memories of the past while cruising with present day comforts. The rear of this VW Beetle looks cool too! The depth of the rear hatch and the bumper adds to the appeal of this sedan. You will find there is the VW emblem in the middle. There is a stationary antennae on the rear window. There is a built in license plate holder here. The rear hatch of this Beetle is finished off with a rear spoiler. This factory spoiler really sets off the overall look of this VW and really adds an extra touch of sport appeal. Overall, the Exterior Condition of this Beetle is in Very Good Condition. I do not see any indications of body work. We did have the paint on the front and rear bumpers and rear spoiler touched up when we got this car just to fully polish off the overall exterior look. For a vehicle of this age and mileage it looks really good. I am sure you would find a small door ding or scuff typical to the year and miles, however, I did not find anything noteworthy, obvious, or inconsistent for the year and miles. This car just looks great! INTERIOR: Inside this Beetle you will find to be in Good Condition. Overall, the interior looks, smells and feels just great. You will find the inside to be in average condition. The Interior is Gray Sport Cloth and the dash is coordinating Black and Gray! All interior trim pieces, dash, and the like are a combination of gray and black. The seats upholstery is gray sport cloth. This VW comes complete with 2 keys with integrated fobs. The seats are a combination of two shades of gray and have a very cool sport print on some of the panels. The seats have panels in a patterned sport cloth. The combination of seat styling looks great! The carpets and front floor mats are also black and in very good condition. You will not find any rips, tears, holes or burns inside this New Beetle. One unique and cool part of the New Beetle are the interior panels that are painted to match the outside of the car. You will notice bright red accents on the inside of the doors that match the exterior body color. Inside this Beetle, you will find lots of surprises and upgrades. There are Power Windows, with Driver 1 Touch Auto Power! There are also power door locks with remote keyless entry fob. With this remote entry you can lock, unlock and even pop the trunk from afar. There is Cruise Control, we tested and it works perfectly. There is AC that blows cold and the air vents, for both heat and cold, are directionally and air flow adjustable. The exterior side view mirrors are also power adjustable from the driver's door. The driver side door has controls for all of the power windows and the door locks. You can also adjust the power mirrors here. The gas door and trunk remote release buttons are here on the bottom next to the cubby for storage. I notice the driver side door handle is missing a piece of trim, but it is not a big deal. You also get chrome door handles which look really sharp against the Gray and Black Interior. The center dash houses the audio system and the climate control. The sound system in this New Beetle is great! You will find an In Dash Cassette player and AM FM Tuner. Located in the trunk is a 6 disc changer. We assume this works, but have not tested it yet. The speakers all sound great, they are crisp and clear. The center console also has a padded armrest which opens up for even more storage. There is a glove box. This VW comes with a remote key fob. The front seats are individual bucket style seats. These seats are very comfortable with high backs, solid moldings, and large supportive seat bottoms. Both front seats are multi point adjustable with recline. Both front seats also have height adjustable Headrests and height adjustable Shoulder Belts, too! The rear set is surprisingly roomy. You can seat 2 more adults back here. There is a lot more leg and head room that I expected back there! I rode in the back seat personally for over an hour and was surprisingly comfortable. This rear bench will fold down for more cargo space. You can also flip the rear seat forward and then the rear seatback will sit totally flush for even more hauling space. Folding the seat down either way is surprisingly easy. It is super easy to do too!! The trunk is large and can hold tons of stuff. You have a full size spare tire recessed here too! There is a CD Changer and another AC power source in the rear trunk area, too. The Overall Interior of this Car is very nice. I notice some small usual wear that is mentioned or clearly visible in the pictures. Such as the missing handle trim on the driver door, some scratches on the steering wheel, a small area where the headliner is coming loose a little, and perhaps some other usual wear. Overall, any wear is usual and minor and this car really looks Great! Overall the Interior of this Beetle GLS is well equipped and in better condition than I would expect. I usually see more wear and tear on a 1998 model car. This is a great car for anyone. UNDER THE HOOD: This VW New Beetle GLS 4 Cylinder gets 41-48 Miles Per Gallon. The I-4 engine generates 90-horsepower at 4,000 RPM and 149 pounds of torque at 1.900 RPM's. The 5 Speed transmission allows for 41-48 Amazing MPG in the city and on the highway. VA State Safety Inspected valid thru 12/2011! This car is ready to ride! (Please note that in the photo below, is is not oil on the cover, it is lighting from the camera flash.) DRIVING IMPRESSIONS: This 1998 VW New Beetle GLS is super Fun to Drive. All of the power options work great and as they should. The engine and transmission both sound and operate as they should. The clutch engages as it should, not too high, not too low and is not too firm. I do not suspect the clutch will need to be repaired for years. It is a sporty yet economical car to drive with lots of get up and go! The ride is very nice and enjoy! This is just a fun car to drive! When we got this car, we had the glow plugs replaced as part of usual maintenance. So, this car passed VA State Safety Inspection, had a little usual maintenance repairs performed and there was nothing else our repair shop recommended to have done.
