Vehicle Detail

1964 Caddy Conv't. Good daily driver with seats from a Mercedes. Engine completely rebuilt in 2000. Dual exhast, newer alternator, brake booster, master cylinder, steering, tires, water pump, digital radio. Top is in good condition. Lots of fun. Head turner. No major issues, not a show car, but a fun very dependable car. I've had it since 1999 and have driven it frequently. Brand new custom floor mats on a bare metal floor. I have flooring and insulation that is included. All windows are in working condition. The driver window is a bit slow but works. The dash is clean with no cracks. This was a CA car until I took it to Colorado in 1999. Mostly garage kept. Metal is in good shape with only minor issues on passagener side rocker panel that has been there as long as I've had it. Trying to get around $6K which is what I paid back in '99 before all the work. If it doesn't sell or you don't come and get it I'll keep on enjoying it. Place your bets. On Dec-31-10 at 08:15:30 PST, seller added the following information: I've been asked about the transmission and interior. Basically the trans is fine, but does leak when the car sits for a while. I think the fill tube O-ring needs to be replaced, but it is a minor leak so I just add a bit every few months. For the interior: the added pictures should show that it is mid-restoration. I got started with it and have just enjoyed having a bit of a rat rod look inside, so I never finished installing the sound/heat shielding pictured or the carpet. Also, it does leak a bit in the rain as all these big conv't tend to do, so no carpet works for me. I've thought about putting down truck bed liner instead. The biggest issue with the interior is that I installed seats from a 4 door mercedes so the fronts don't tilt forward, which usually isn't a problem cause the top is down and you can just walk to the back. The driver seat is electric and I have the switch that controls it and a little power suppy that I hook up to move it, however the seat is set for me and it can be a bit of a chore to move it back and forth without the switch setup. I would recommend moving the passenger seat over to the driver side if you need to adjust it a lot as the passenger seat is manual. The seat are very comfy and hold you in much better than the original bench seat. They also have a head rest to protect your neck, which was my main concern. Stuff I've done over the years and just about forgot to mention: - Heat shielded the starter...these cars destroy starters with that big block heat. - 40,000V performance coil - Pertronix Ignitor Electronic Ignition...no points to deal with and this sucker throws fire into the cylinders. - New alternator, battery and battery cable...before I figure out why the starters died I redid everything before it - Knife blade battery disconnect switch (seen in picture showing under the hood)...Sooooo much easier disconnecting the battery for repairs or emergencies. - Dual exhaust with lifetime warranty at Mieneke...not easy to get anymore - Rear airshocks...raise back with a bicycle pump - Sealed interior floorpans with Rust Bullet paint - 3 point safety harnesses...not installed, but will throw them into the deal - Brand new flywheel...this is a HUGE pain on this year caddy and they are VERY VERY hard to find - 10 yr old top and top motor still in great shape due to garage storage and low use (10yrs in dry Colorado) - Newer brake and master cylinder...another hard to find item due to 2 kinds used that are NOT interchangeable no matter what the mechanic says. - I forgot to mention this was a Hollywood, CA car so it is very rust free except as noted on rocker panels, floorpans, bumper, and a few others that have not grown since 1999 - Newer waterpump, hoses, radiator, thermostat - 2000 steering box - Rebuilt motor with approx 44K miles. One sticky valve that quiets down with frequent use. - New brake pads, cylinders, etc - I'm sure I'm leaving out a ton I've done to keep this thing going over the years and modernizing. I've driven from Denver to Las Vegas to Roswell, NM to Tuscan, AZ to Lake Powell to Maryland to the Kennedy Space Center. It doesn't vibrate, it doesn't shimmy, it doesn't smoke, it doesn't drift, it doesn't overheat, it doesn't miss a gas station :) I'll be driving the car to work everyday this week, which is about an hour a day, so I do feel that it can make a long drive if needed. This is a fun old drive and it does get looks when I go anywhere with it. It does have minor cosmetic problems and goofy stuff like the driver's seat, but if you just wanna cruise around with the top down and feel pretty sure that you won't break down then this is the car for you. Its like a safe sexy motorcycle you can ride with 6 of you best friends with. Alternatively, minor investments like a new interior, conv't top rubber, and paint job along with some aftermarket air and you will have one sweet ride.
