Vehicle Detail

1972 Suzuki TM250J TM250 TM 250 Champion AHRMA Vintage Up for sale is my 1972 Suzuki TM250J that I purchased from the (deceased) original owner’s family in 1987. I was told at the time that it has about 20 hours on it, and that seems consistent with its appearance and condition. It was stored indoors before I bought it, and I have kept it stored indoors since that time. As nice as the bike is, I have never ridden it until I got it ready to sell this month. After blowing all the years of warehouse dust & grime off, I gave it a sponge bath with hot soapy water and started it up. The amazing thing is that, because the carb was drained when I purchased the bike, all I had to do was put air in the tires and premix in the tank, and it started right up! (any time I wake an oil-injected two-stroke up from a long nap, I always use premix for the first start-up, even though this bike still has its original oil injection system.) It sounds amazing – nice and crisp, a very tight engine with virtually no piston slap, and it shifts perfectly through the gears and pulls cleanly from bottom to top. This engine is in incredibly good condition! Also in amazing condition is the stock exhaust! These TM’s with their low pipes were seldom ridden very much without bashing in the exhaust pipe, so this one with its virtually perfect exhaust is a real rarity! (See photos) It also has all the “right stuff” from back in the day – Akront rims, Inter-Am aluminum handlebars, “unbreakable” plastic clutch and brake levers. The only thing missing is the front number plate. There are a few minor flaws: The fuel tank has a small dent on the right-top of the tank and some very minor scratches/chips (see photos), the fenders have some paint chips/flakes and need to be repainted, and the kickstart spring needs to be rewound, as the kickstart operates fine, but has to be returned manually. Oh - and the piping at the front edge of the seat is coming unraveled. The bike looks as good as it does with no special detailing. I did not paint anything. Everything you see is all original, and any wear (or lack of wear) shows how much/little the bike has been ridden. It could benefit from a thorough detailing, and could be museum quality with very little effort. The bike comes with both an Owners Manual and a Factory Service Manual, which together are worth more than $50 if sold in separate eBay listings. Back in the day, when this bike was originally sold new, dirt bikes were not titled in Texas, so rather than a title, this bike has the original MSO/MCO (Manufacturer's Statement/Certificate of Origin) with its assignment on the back to the original owner. Also included is a certified copy of the original owner's death certificate, which the original owner's family provided to me at the time I purchased the bike. If you need a title, these two documents should allow you to title the bike in your name. This bike is offered with no Reserve. The Buy-It-Now price is $1795. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, taxes, etc. See all Payment, Shipping, and other Terms at the bottom of this listing. NOTE - See Payment, Shipping, & Other Terms at the bottom of this Listing. Here is more information on the bikes I will be selling over the next few weeks: I have been collecting motorcycles for almost 30 years, as long as I have been a Kawasaki and Suzuki dealer. These have all been sitting in a dry West Texas warehouse all these years, but now a divorce and other factors compel me to sell most of my collection. Most of these bikes are excellent examples of stock or near-stock machines in unrestored but good condition. They have all been stored for years, and I don't have time to go through each one and restore them all to new condition, so I will basically sell them just like they are. Most will need only small amounts of attention to have a really fine motorcycle. I will try to list approximately one bike a week, and all I have time to do is the most rudimentary clean-up and make-ready. If I can get a bike running with minimal effort, I have done so, but I don't have time to fix everything that might be wrong, troubleshoot electrical, fix every small oil drip, or detail-clean and visually/mechanically restore all of them to perfect condition. So, if a bike starts easily without a lot of effort, I will get it running, clean the dust off, and put it here for sale. If it isn't a simple/easy few-minutes job to get one running, I will list it as not running. These bikes were all running when they were originally stored, so even those that don't run should be easily made to run, but some will need carbs cleaned, batteries, spark plugs, etc. I will also list other known defects, but these are sold as-is, and I cannot guarantee that there aren't things I don't know about. Again, most will need only small amounts of attention to have a really fine motorcycle. Some (like the RE5 & the Z1) are almost perfect and need virtually nothing.
