Vehicle Detail
1966 Austin Healey 3000 MKIII BJ8 Phase 2 No Reserve!!! The new Austin-Healey went into production in 1953 and was immediately popular in the U.S. The cars were well-styled, inexpensive, rugged and above all easy to drive, for both the sports car enthusiast who fancied some light competition or just for tooling down to the shops. The early four-cylinder cars were superseded by a six-cylinder model in 1956, appropriately named the 100/Six, and these stayed in production until 1959, when the engine was enlarged to 2,912 cc, hence the name Austin-Healey 3000. These were more powerful and faster, equipped with front disc brakes, and soon gave rise to the legend of the Big Healey. Shortly thereafter, in 1964, came the 3000 MKIII, generally considered to be the finest Healey variant of them all. It was more convertible than roadster, with wind-up windows, excellent soft top, and two-plus-two seating. The cockpit sported a varnished wood dashboard with the traditional sports car array of instruments, a central console between comfortable bucket seats, and well-fitted carpets. The Austin Healey 3000 was one of the most successful family sports cars of its generation, winning rallies around the globe. Up for auction is legendary 1966 Austin Healey 3000 MKIII BJ8 Phase 2. Car will need total restoration, and this Big Healey is perfect candidate for it! Phase 2 is the last production phase of BJ8 Healey’s, making this particular car even more rare and special. In 1966 there was only 5,495 Austin Healey’s 3000 BJ8 made, and this beauty is one of them! In its final production stage a dropped rear-frame ensured that there was a full inch more clearance, and at the same time the suspension was improved with twin radius arms replacing the Panhard rod attached to the rear axle. The power and luxury, combined with a reasonable price ensured that Austin Healey BJ8 3000 was a popular purchase when launched. They became one of the most popular exports to America as they suited the American market with both speed and glamour included. Today “Big Healey” has become the collectors and restorers favorite, and perfect examples are at premium prices, costing upward of $60,000. This Healey is ALL COMPLETE, and it makes a great candidate for a restoration! Best thing is that its being sold with NO RESERVE, so may the highest bidder win!!!!! This Big Healey has same owner since 1985, and it was parked and stored about 10-12 years ago. It was parked with intention of having full restoration done, but it never happened. Before it was parked, it was running, but now, engine spins freely. With some TLC, gas tank cleaning, carburetor cleaning and adjustment, it should start right up again. It features two tone paint, Ice Blue Metallic (paint code 2301M), with Old English White/Ivory Coves. Structurally this Healy is in pretty good condition. Floor boards are solid and rust free, along with the frame (please see pictures). There is some usual “Healey” rust, on the bottom of the fenders, and rocker panels. Aside from that, rest of the car is very nice and straight, and all body panels align nicely. Doors, hood, and trunk lid are all operating with ease. This car has been Florida car its whole life, and it shows. Convertible soft top frame is complete, and it goes up and down with ease. (please see pictures). All glass and windows are clear and intact. It also comes with its Original “Knock-Off” wire wheels. Interior is all complete. Old foam seat bottoms were removed from the car, due to their age, and they will need to be replaced with new ones. They are easy to find and you can find a lot of parts for the Healey’s at www.mossmotors.com Engine is complete, but it has not been run since the car was stored, 10-12 years ago. Like I said before, it does spin freely, and with some TLC should be good to go. It comes with manual transmission. Mileage is showing 34,244 miles, Car now does roll and steer without any problems. This beautiful antique Austin Healey will only continue to appreciate in its value, and with time, these cars are harder and harder to come by.
