Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a beautifully restored 1956 Continental Mark II with the rare air conditioning option. The Continental Division was created by Ford Motor Company in 1955 to field 1956 model-year cars that were a substantial step above Cadillac and on par with Rolls Royce. If you don’t know the story of the Continental, you can learn more about the history and special quality built into these vehicles at http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1956-1957-lincoln-continental-mark-2.htm. Prior to my acquisition of the car, it was professionally restored in 2005. This Mark II is finished as-original in stunning black lacquer with a red and white leather interior. All interior surfaces are correctly covered in new leather. The headliner and carpet are new as well, as is the correct hood blanket in the engine bay. The trunk compartment is detailed to the same high level of perfection. All exterior chrome was re-plated or and the stainless trim was polished. The engine compartment and undercarriage have been restored and detailed to show standards. The front and rear windshield gaskets are also new. The car is in exceptional restored condition with immaculate paint, chrome and glass. Mechanically, the driveline, engine bay, suspension, and braking and fuel systems are fully rebuilt and restored. The car runs beautifully. All instrumentation, accessories and options function with the single exception of the vacuum-operated antenna. The radio has been restored to OEM cosmetics, but with updated electronics to provide AM/FM reception. The battery was replaced with a powerful Optima battery, neatly concealed beneath the unique Continental battery cover. Weatherstripping, gaskets and tires were replaced in 2005 and are in excellent condition. If you want a show-ready, drive-it-anywhere Mark II, this is your car. Included with the sale are an original hardbound owner’s manual, reproduction shop manual, an extra reproduction owner’s manual, and a copy of the original dealer invoice.
