1979 Subaru Brat GL VIN: A69L510956 Engine family: BU Evaporative family: GU Front or 4WD 4 Speed I wanted to keep this very nice and rust free Brat but it's proven too difficult and costly, with a time limit imposed to pass California smog in my area. I've driven it about 300 miles and expended over $6K with little to show other than some short lived trips and enjoyment with friends. California DMV has issued me a title, w/ PNO registration deferred. No back penalties/fees. The speedo works, but the odometer wasn't. It's stopped at 86xxx miles and it's not correct. - Installed 2 new catalytic converters in line for California to obtain lower HC emissions, but it's customized per smog rules Door label states a non catalyst, the cats can be removed if you wish. - Installed new aluminized exhaust from cat back. - Installed aluminized steel custom roll bar. - The EA-71, 1.6l engine has been removed. I've a new rebuilt CCR EA-71 , available separately. I've the original EA-71 engine, it has a rod knock: engine not included. I've a spare set of new rebuilt heads, by CCR, available separately. I've some hard to find smog parts, available separately (pulse type air, egr, anti backfire valve) Paint on the car is nice, but it is not show. There are waves in the driver door panel, a minor ding in the tailgate. Parked at the shop, it received two identical new dents, both sides along the top of the bed rail towards the top, not seen in pic. Picture of dent added 12/15/'10. It is about a 5" crease, no scratches, don't know how it was caused at the shop even after inquiry. Emergency/parking brakes works good. Good front/rear brakes. Good tires w/ usable tread life. Good suspension No oil leaks, no gas leaks The electrical were all working: Horn, flasher, headlights, brake lights, Citizen clock, heater, not the radio. Saucer light intact, it switched on manually, not with the door. Headliner is very nice. Both side mirrors are nice, no cracks. Don't recall if the wiper/washer worked. It engaged in to 4WD. The 4 speed gearbox is now sticking and difficult to get in to any gear. Both jump seats are in excellent condition, no holes or gouges, has the headrests and slider, no seat belts. The truck bed is not dinged up, shows no rust. Seat belts buckle up nicely, straps not frayed. No visible rust seen or hidden by paint on the chassis underside, none seen on bumper undersides, door rockers or sill area. Mudflaps are not the originals Front and rear bumpers' are straight w/ modest dings. Nice chrome on them w/ the rubber corners. Tail gate handle is missing, the cables & hardware are intact, gate opens and closes. Front, side and rear window/glass show no cracks. They roll up/down, slide. Both doors open, close and seals great. The locks in the doors are a bit dry needing to be wiggled to lock. Rear view mirror not properly mounted. The door upholstery is nice. The driver seat upholstery is a bit torn on the left and a bit on the passenger seat right. The window sticker is not included.
