Vehicle Detail
This 1972 Skylark Custom Convertible “project” was in the process of a total restoration, when the unexpected death of the builder stopped its completion. This vehicle is now for sale and provides an exceptional opportunity for the car enthusiast who has passion for cars manufactured in the twilight stages of the muscle car era. Reserve is less than the cost of the new parts alone! This Skylark Custom was originally painted yellow at the factory and then painted blue some years ago. The previous blue paint job was obviously done on a restricted budget, which reasons why some of the blue paint has chipped off, revealing the original yellow color. The vehicle was in the process of being restored as a ‘Grand Sport’ tribute vehicle, hence the aftermarket suspension upgrades. Included with this project vehicle are; 5 new rally wheels and tires ($1,408.33), new power disc brake conversion kit – in box ($858.45), new fuel tank and sending unit – in box ($272.90), new aftermarket radiator – in box ($389.95), new chrome headers – in box ($499.95), new front/rear sway bars – in box ($209.95), new alternator – in box ($109.95), new starter – in box ($158.95), new rear trailing arms ($266.95), new ‘Global West’ tubular control arms ($719.95), front grill and light bezels re-chromed ($425.00), new instrument dash panel – in plastic ($426.30), new hood logo / emblems – in box ($210.00), new convertible header bow – in box ($411.94), 2 new convertible top cylinders – in box ($299.90), new convertible top pump – in box ($259.95), new valve covers ($204.00), new steering box ($336.95), wipers / assembly – in plastic ($99.00) plus other new hoses, door handles, etc, totaling over $7568.37 in parts alone (just to mention some). Additionally, the vehicle has a professionally rebuilt 350 Buick motor, rebuilt 400 transmission and rebuilt 4 barrel carburetor (total cost: $4,195.00). This rebuilt motor assembly has never been started. The restoration began with a body-off process, which allowed for the complete underside to be refurbished and painted with undercoating. The interior was also primed with a rust prohibiting agent to aid in the longevity of the restoration. The frame was painted black and many of the new suspension components have already been installed. The interior of the vehicle and some of the other items were installed as a ‘mockup’ only for the photo, and will need to be permanently attached before operating the vehicle. Additionally, some of the parts which still need restoration include the convertible top, interior, the A/C unit, some window trim and other associated items. Original wire looms, dash panels, gages, steering column, chrome front and rear bumpers, jack, and other misc. parts also are included with the vehicle. Although the work on the vehicle was completed by an experienced craftsman before his untimely death, for obvious reasons I am unable to guarantee his work. For this reason, the vehicle will be sold as is, where is, and with no guarantees; written or implied. I strongly urge any serious buyer to examine the work on this vehicle in person, so they can attest to the high quality of parts used in the restoration. As listed above, this vehicle has over $12,000.00 invested in new or refurbished parts alone, without adding in the original cost of the vehicle. This Skylark Custom Convertible project is truly an excellent vehicle, as well as value. For further information, call Jim at 541-944-0960.
