Vehicle Detail
For sale is my 1990 Nugget Yellow DIESEL Volkswagen Cabriolet, that's right DIESEL!!! I have owned this car since 2007. When I purchased it, the car had 88,374miles on it. Now it reads 106,236miles. The car use to have a gasoline engine, but I swapped the engine to a 1.6L diesel. The car also use to be an automatic, but I converted it to a 5spd manual when I did the diesel conversion. The car gets close to 50mpg. Runs like a top. I have but about 3,000miles on it as a diesel. The milage is accurate. Here is a list of things I have done, and some things it might need since I have owned it. Since my ownership/ the good Slightly used black Canvas top. (two weeks ago I just gave it a cleaning and waterproof treatment) H&R ultra low coilovers in the front w/ H&R lowering springs in the rear w/ Bilstein shocks. Rebuilt OEM VW manual steering rack w/ poly bushings Has the rare rebuild-able strut caps which I powder coated and have new poly bushings installed Complete Helios pattern interior with Recaro Helios front seats w/ power tilt. Upgraded Kicker component speakers up front. Kenwood cd/mp3 player w/ aux hookup Working locking glove box Power windows New front bumper painted to match New Battery relocated to trunk 1.6l na diesel engine form a 1982 rabbit Powder coated Diesel filler neck w/ new gas cap Badge-less quad light grill Short shift kit from techtonics Brand new diesel exhaust new tie rods and boots new thermostat, cooling fan switch, and radiator Complete rear beam swap from a 16v Scirocco includding 16v rear disc brake conversion, and an upgraded rear sway bar w/ poly bushings New axles New Scirocco 16v e-brake cables New brake fluid. New timing belt All new gasket's and seals New motor mounts The bad or thing that might need addressing Car was repainted a long time ago before I bought it. There is some over spray here and there, but not the best paint job. Car was always Yellow, but the new paint is much lighter than the original color. Two rust spots near the windshield. They have not gotten bigger since I have owned it and applied rust converter. The steering rack needs to be centered. the car has about 1 whole turn w/ the wheel to the right than it does to the left. This really only effects driving when you are trying to park. (I may have this sorted out soon) Reverse lights do not work, need some kind of connector and wire ran because of the manual swap I did. I'm told this is easy I just never got around to it. Could use new rotors, pads all the way around and maybe new rear wheel bearings. That's all I can think of. I know I have a lot more parts installed on the car that I can't think of right now. Nugget Yellow was a 1990 only color, and was available only on the Cabriolet, and the Corrado. Car handles like a little go kart. It has a bit of trouble starting when it's cold if you don't leave the engine block heater plugged in over night, so it might need some new glow plugs. As long as I leave it plugged in I have no trouble with it starting. I put monster diesel in every tank of fuel. Speedo works, but tach doesn't since it's a diesel. Engine I put in the car had 75k on it, and I don't know about the tranny. The code on the trans is ACN. This car is a blast to drive. I would drive it anywhere. Keep in mind since it has coilovers it is a bit of a harsh ride, so don't expect it to be some kind of Cadillac sofa ride. No ac but the heat works. All windows function properly, and since I maintain the conv top it does not leak. It is currently registered with historic tags in MD. I drive it about once a week to keep her well lubricated. This car can be registered in MD w/ no inspection since it is 20 years old, that means save money on getting an inspection. With a little bit of work this car could easily run WVO and you could essentially drive it for free. My name is Patrick and my number is 410-961-0435 if you have any questions. Cabriolets were never offered in the United States with a diesel engine. This is a rare opportunity for someone who wants the advantages of a diesel in a fun and different vehicle. The car has a lot of potential to essentially be operated for free with the installation of a WVO kit. I had plans to do this but don't have the space for it anymore. My loss is your gain. I have some spare parts that will come with the car as well as a black top boot cover and I have a white one as well. NOTE the car WILL NOT come with the 5 spoke gray wheels. It will come with BMW BBS mesh wheels, or bring your own. The BBS wheels are a bit bent up, and the tires are no good on them. On Nov-29-10 at 05:51:29 PST, seller added the following information: Vehicle is sold as is with no warranty. Forgot to mention that the previous owner cut some sheet metal out of the fender arches. I think they did this to make room for larger wheels. The plastic fender flares covers these areas. On Dec-04-10 at 18:20:28 PST, seller added the following information: I reserve the right to end this auction at any time, since the vehicle is advertised elsewhere.
