1983 Mazda RX-7 Project Car
This is not the kind of car that we usually sell. This car is a non-running project car that will need to be towed/hauled away. It is being sold strictly as-is where is, but I can deliver it to you on my trailer(see pictures) for a fee. This is a no reserve auction which means that the high bidder will be the next owner of this vehicle.
We have been retained by an estate to sell some cars previously belonging to an elderly gentleman in the area. This is one of those cars. It is a 1983 Mazda RX-7 GSL that spent most of its life cruising the highways of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. In 1996 the rotary engine started to develop the usual oil leaks and it was decided to do a Ford V6 engine conversion and a full restoration of the rest of the car. A local shop began the work but before it was finished, they went out of business. Since that time it is has been parked out beside the barn and nobody ever did get it finished.
The engine that is in the car is a 2.8 liter out of a Ford Ranger pickup. The engine was completely rebuilt before being put in this car. It is hooked up and mounted to the transmission. There are a few minor items that weren't finished such as the installation of the cooling fan and the A/C condensor and cruise control. Those parts are in the hatch of the car. I put a jump box on this car and the engine did turn over and the fuel pump ran but of course I didn't actually start the car because there is no fuel or coolant in it. The engine oil does look good and clean and from what I can tell, with a little work this engine should run fine. The exhaust system from the downpipe back is completely missing.
The underside of the car is amazingly free of rust as you can see from the pictures. The car is still solid with no holes through the panels except the rear quarter panel has a small hole right behind the rear wheel. The doors, cowl, hood and roof do have some significant surface rust but it is not rusted through. If somebody would attend to those areas soon, I think it would be worth saving. The wheels are in decent condition and the tires still hold air. Overall the car has survived amazingly well all these years of sitting outside, but if it is going to be saved it will need to have some TLC pretty soon.
The interior is a bit of a mess. Alot of the pieces are present but are laying around inside. The dash is also badly cracked. We didn't clean anything up or vaccum it out. What you see is what we got. If you have any specific questions about what is present and what isn't let me know and I will try to find out for you.
This car is being sold whole and will not be parted out. It has a clear and clean title. Once again, you are responsible to trailer this vehicle home or you can pay me to bring it to you on my flatbed. I will charge $1.00 per mile one way or $.50 per mile both ways.
