1958 Mercury Monterey Phaeton Coupe Here i have available is a really nice 1958 Mercury Monterey. This 2dr ht has been my personal custom cruiser. A real head turner and a pleasure to drive anywhere. As Im sure you know these 2dr ht coupes are getting harder to find..Much has been done to restore and or maintain this vehicle over the past few years. The things listed is what has been done to the car.. and then some things that i did not get to, that will need attention. Original California car, 383 Marauder CI 312 HP. Multi-Drive Merc-o-matic Trans. The engine is original and has not been molested and still runs great! It has been maintained and serviced. The Trans. also maintained and shifts great in both High Perf. and Cruising ranges. The engine has a 2barrel Holley carb. which according to the previous owner who bought it in Cal. was told that it was changed over back in 1962 when Cal. mandated emissions controls in 1963, therefor routing the oil breathers from the manifolds and or the blow by tubes back into the carb. or to the air filter cutting down on air pollution. The VIN# Data plate reads: 63A*M8JB50 9979 *-----63A 6-31-237-3B D T. The Space Age Instrument Cluster with the Dual Drive Trans. Buttons, all Gauges, Heater, Wipers, Speedometer, Lights, Clock all work Great. Equipped with safety hazard switch. Town/Country Radio w/foot control works great and plays, the Town button can get sticky at times searching for stations,,The Country button works fine. The power Antenna switch was added to the car with a 1960s power ant. from a Lincoln, due to the fact that there was a cut out opening where the switch is from once was ,i think? a CB radio mic? or maybe an alarm etc, i dont know for sure,So to hide that this was the best option. The car is equipped with Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows / Power seat (added) All wiring circuit breakers, relays, switches are original factory stock. The following is new: Battery, Spark plugs/Wires. Fuel/Air Filters, Hoses, Temp. Sensor, New Inhibitor(Cut out Switch) New Power Steering Control Valve, New Front Shocks, New upper and lower Ball Joints, Tie Rods, and Bushings. Dual Exhaust with Chrome Tips. Rebuilt Treadle Vac, New Brake Lines/Hoses to front wheels and body. Drums resurfaced, All New 4 wheel cylinders. Brakes adjusted and the updated sway bar has new bushings. Radiator reconditioned, Generator was replaced with a New Alternator w/ gauge(glove comp.) for better electrical and access. I also added a front Automatic fan for taking the car on long road trips. The Car was painted about 5 years ago with a custom two tone look to match the factory Jamaican Blue. Everything was removed and sanded down to metal, primed and painted. New interior Tri Tone colors were added with New custom Seat Upholstery, the Int. door panels and the rear Int qtr. panels are original and have new color to match. There is some tears on pass. door (see pic) due to age, New Carpet added. Dash and interior trim was also custom painted. The original int. color was a boring dark solid navy blue on everything,,I hated it and I wanted a custom more lively 50s Icon look with some Style. Safety Group: Padded visors and Dash Pad added with new color. there is wear and tear (minor areas) but hardly noticed at all. New Headliner, New dome light, Interior Chrome trim was added with Re chromed Int. Sail Panels. Day/Night rear view mirror added. The deluxe Steering wheel has some cracks due to age but still looks great. New Windshield and New Rubber Seal. New drivers side Window glass, everything else is original and in great condition, no cracks etc. Front and Rear Bumpers have been Re chromed, with New Bumper Pod inserts. All bright work is there but has some dings and scratches for i was not able to have it all redone...But the Hood Moldings and lower headlight brow Moldings are New. New Hood Ornament, New Mercury Letters, New Mercury Scripts, New Headlight bezels..its hard to tell what is actually NOS and what was actually original but it is FoMoCo. New Correct Rocker Moldings. New Chrome Tail light bezels still look great with minor wear. Dual mirrors were added. The Rear Ext. sail panels were re polished and cleaned and i added Mercury lights to replace the the broken medallions,(where do you get these anymore?) Cool custom look don't you think? see pics. Brand New 4 American Classic Radial White Walls. The whole time i have owned this car it has been in private dry covered storage and has never seen rain...the car has No major rust to the body, trunk, floor pans and the rockers are solid,,No rust to the rear qtrs. There is still undercoating under the car..How ever there are some things that need attention, there is some rust out to the lower radiator support corners from years previous of overheating, but is repairable or replacement supports are still out there, i just never got that changed or repaired. It does not effect the stability of the support or the radiator. Some rust to the battery tray, new ones are available. The front bolt to the front left exhaust manifold has broke off but still secure to the block and there is No exhaust leak. The windshield wipers work great but the washer pump i can not get to work (everything is there)..and the car could use an oil pan gasket, and a trunk mat. So much have been done to this car and may still need some things. There has been NO modifications to the chassis, body, or suspension, and nothing has been altered or molested in my years of owning this car. If anything, major improvements and some styling changes have been enhanced..I have done my best to describe the vehicle as best as i can..feel free to asked questions... In addition there are extra parts that will go with the car just in case you may need them down the road...You get a pair of Front Springs never used, another Reconditioned Radiator, New Reconditioned Water Pump, New Fuel Pump etc.. You get an extra pair of rear Qtr. Windows, another Parking Pall Cable if you should ever need to replace the original. Spare tire (Remington original) comes with car, working power window and power seat motors and a few more things, too many to list... The Car runs Great! Kick ass power! Does Not Smoke.
