First Impressions: With a first glance this Mountaineer is a looker. The Alloy Wheels and Chrome touches look good. The lower body panels are a slightly lighter blue than the overall body and really sets this truck off. There is a roof rack and tow package so you can take whatever and whoever you want with you. Exterior: The Exterior is described as a Medium Wedgwood blue with a Light Wedgwood blue lower body panel. The color looks very nice and while it is Metallic it appears slightly muted. Overall the condition is slightly better than what I would expect with this age and mileage . It is a pretty SUV. From the front view this Mercury is very commanding without being overpowering. The Grill is Chrome and the bumper is the lighter Wedgwood blue. There are also fog lights here as well. The Mercury symbol is in the middle of the grill. The profile is that of a nice SUV. You have the 2 complimentary colors and it looks good. The running boards make climbing in and out super easy especially if you have your hands full. There are marker lights and a tan pinstripe. While the body is straight and true and this is a 1 Owner Clean Carfax, I do notice some wear and tear on the exterior. These are very minor and cannot even be seen in the pictures, however, I just wanted to mention it. The rear of this vehicle is nice as well. Surprisingly the back hatch does not have the crack in it that most Mountaineers have. The rear window opens on its own or you can open the whole back hatch as one piece. The bumper is again the same color as the lower body panel of the rest of the SUV. There is also a tow hitch back here and a light hookup. There is minimal badging back here including Mountaineer and AWD done in classy Chrome. You also will fine a rear wiper back here which is controlled from inside the cabin. One of the coolest things about this SUV is that you have back up sensors back here! No excuse to back into anything now unless you are just mad. One of the other things that I like about this truck is that on the rear brake lights there are chrome bars. They really set the look off! This 2002 Mercury Mountaineer is riding on a set of Michelin 245/70/R16 with factory alloy wheels. The tires just passed the VA State Safety Inspection so they have plenty of tread left. The Alloys look good. There is some curb chew here but it is consisten with what I would expect to see. Looking at the Driver’s side of this SUV you will notice the number pad on the Driver Door. This is used to unlock all the doors and you can relock the doors here. This is super convenient when going places that you don’t want to tote keys with you. The roof rack on this SUV is practical and really sets the appearance off. It looks good and you can put tons of stuff up there. You will also notice there is a Tow hitch on the back of this Mountaineer. Overall the condition of the Exterior is in better condition than I would expect for this age and mileage. I have been driving this Mountaineer since it came into inventory and I continue to be impressed when I see it. While it does show some sign of age (very minor dings/scratches=normal wear and tear) it looks really good. The only other thing worth mentioning is that there is a chip in the windshield that was repaired. It is almost behind the rear view mirror and not in the line of vision by any means. Like I said, I have been driving this SUV since we got it and it looks Very Good. With the light tint and the black and chrome accents, this SUV looks so nice. Interior: The interior of this Mountaineer is nicer than it should be. The seating surfaces show minimal wear and are all Gray leather. There are no rips tears or burns. The carpets are gray as well and those too show minimal wear (except for the Driver side floor mat). There are tons of amenities in this truck so I will try to tell you about them all:) The driver’s seat is fore and aft powered. There is some minor wear on the driver's side bolster (this is very normal). The adjustable headrest and seatbelts with the other manual adjustments make it customizable to anyone. The Passenger seat is the same and with minimal wear. Oh, did I mention these seats are both Heated! From the Driver’s seat you have access to all of the power options here. There are power windows and door locks and mirrors. The Door has a huge cubby on the bottom for extra storage. The doors are trimmed in chrome accents as well. The gauge panel is super easy to read and looks cool too. It has white faces and chrome accents. Your standard gauges are included and the odometer and trip meter are digital. The steering wheel is dark gray with Chrome accents here as well. I did notice some scratching on the chrome here. There are audio and climate controls directly on the wheel for ease of use while driving. This way you don’t even have to look away from the road to make changes. Just to the left of the steering wheel you will notice the back up sensor control. The center dash houses the audio and climate controls. You will find the AM FM tuner and the In dash 6 Disc CD Player here. There is also a digital climate control here and it is dual as well. It blows super cold with no problems. If you notice to the right of the steering wheel there is a set of buttons. These can be used to scroll thru information such DTE, Avg MPG, etc. There is also a compass and external temperature. In between the 2 front seats you will notice there are: 2 built in cup holders 2 Rubber lined storage areas, 1 large 1 small (so things don’t slide around) An AC Adaptor A large covered storage/arm rest There is a glove box in the front that contains the owner’s manual for this Mountaineer. You also get 2 keyless entry controllers and 2 keys. Now if you look above you will notice a few more amenities on this SUV. There is a fully powered Moon roof with sunshade. So you can just let the sun in or open the roof for a nice breeze. There is also an auto dimming Rear View mirror. Riding in the front of this SUV is great and riding in the back is awesome too. The 2nd row of seating is leather as well, with minimal wear. You can fit 3 more adults back here. This seat is plush and comfortable with lots of legroom. There is an additional AC Adaptor back here too. This seat is customizable. It folds down in 3 separate sections to allow for passengers to easily get into the 3rd row of seating. Also this allows to enlarge the cargo area too so you can put tons of stuff in this SUV. Notice that the seat cushion of the middle section will fold out and offer even more convenient storage. The 3rd seat if a fine ride as well. You have cup holders back here too. This seat also folds down if you need even more space. I actually rode back her with the 2nd row of seats down and felt like I was in a chaise lounger. You can fit 2 adults back here too. When all of the seats are down there is a lot of room back here. Even when the seats are up there is no problem fitting everything in here. Overall the Interior is Great shape. While there are some minor signs of wear, it is better than what I would expect for a vehicle of this year and mileage. With the Leather, 6 disc CD, AWD, customizable cargo area, runnning boards, this SUV is so easy to operate and drive. I love it! Driving Impressions: With all the features in this SUV I really love driving it. I could not wait to get the detail and pictures done so I could start driving it on a daily basis. It is especially easy to drive when toting around the family including small children. It is practical with lots of power. Steering and maneuvering this SUV is easy because it is not so big that it won’t fit anywhere yet large enough to handle. Under the Hood: This 4.0L V6 engine operates and performs exactly as it should. It has plenty of power and with the tow hitch you can take whatever you want. The brakes are smooth with no pulsating and the transmission shifts and operates exactly as it should. With the AWD you will never be stranded. The mechanics are in Great Condition and this SUV just passed the VA State Safety Inspection which is rigorous.
