Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a1961 Volkswagen beetle ideal for a "restoration to mint" project. As far as I can see, it is completely original--body, upholstery, headliner, radio, etc.. Also, it has NOT undergone the 12 volt conversion typical of these cars. I hate to lose it, but if I kept all of them, I wouldn't have money fix any of them. I was surprised to find the pan has no rust that I can see. I have several pictures showing this. The heater channels look like new. The manual transmission is in place but please note THERE IS NO ENGINE. Obviously, I have not tested the transmission and can't comment on it. I will try to get out this weekend and spin it around to listen for anything funny. I was sitting here thinking about making you a "Pros and Cons" list and realized that the "cons" list is longer that the "Pros" list. There's couple of reasons for that. First--it's OLD. The VIN #3621219 suggests a Spring 1961 production date, that's beating up 50 years. Second, I would rather emphasize the negatives so you have a complete feel for the car's status. I would never try to polish an apple to lure you into buying. So here goes. . . . PROS---and I think these are very positive items, enough to cancel out several "cons" * VERY little pan rust*solid heater channels*Appears to have all original everything--body, seats, upholstery, headliner, and that awesome OEM radio*Some people like the idea of "patina" This is completely genuine, does not appear to have been repainted.*Neat-o Wolfsburg crest on front of hood! CONS--A long list of small items that can be dealt with and this car made into a gem. *No engine*Significant body rust as follows: Spare tire well rusted through in spots*Rear bumper mount rusted, bumper hangs loose*Some small bubbles of rust showing through passenger door*Running boards are shot. Rusty. *I have never driven it, so I don't know if the following works or not: transmission, lights, electrical system, pretty much anything. It all looks good, though* No idea of the actual mileage*You should consider it "no tires" I pumped them up to tow it home, but they were flat in a day or two. VERY bad dry rot*Driver's seat back has no upholstery, just the wire frame* Although all original, upholstery and headliner need complete replacement.*I put in the mileage shown on the odometer tocsatisfy the program, who knows what that means on a 50 year old bug? PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR NEED ADDITIONAL PHOTOS. PLEASE COME INSPECT BEFORE BUYING. ALSO--LOOK AT MY VIDEO ON YOU TUBE. IT GIVES A LIVE WALK-AROUND Put "1960MarkN" into their search bar. Here's a good deal on delivery-- If you want to transport this yourself, you will need to trailer it. Towing might work but the tires don't hold air well. DURING THE WEEK OF THANKS GIVING I CAN DELIVER IT in the following areas: Anywhere in Idaho, Anywhere in Washington east of the Cascades, along the freeway I-90 west of Butte and south, along the freeway in Utah north of Salt Lake, and along the freeway I-84 in northern Oregon. Pretty much a circle bounded by Omak, Washington --Spokane--Butte--Salt Lake--Hermiston, Oregon. Fifty cents per mile, we can use the mileages listed on Yahoo maps. I accept Paypal, certified checks, or cash. PLEASE come inspect to avoid any misunderstandings, I don't want to get hung up with returns, but will if the car has been grossly mis-represented. You will have to pay shipping both ways. If you see a dune buggy or other VW's in the photos, remember they are not included in this auction, but make me an offer On Nov-09-10 at 00:11:27 PST, seller added the following information: * * * * * * * * NEW INFORMATION* * * * * ** I GOT OUT THIS WEEKEND AND SPUN THE TRANSMISSION. ALL I COULD TELL WAS THAT IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY BAD SOUNDS. THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL BEARING SOUNDS A LITTLE DRY, THOUGHOn Nov-10-10 at 08:26:17 PST, seller added the following information: **********NEW INFORMATION WEDNESDAY MORNING NOVEMBER 10th***************** I just contacted a trucking company and got shipping quotes. It looks similar wherever they go in the U.S., with some variation. I made up a couple destinations for them, and they said $1095.00 to Los Angeles, $1395.00 To Norfolk Virginia, and $1295.00 to a place about halfway. I was surprised. That is "door to door" they will bring it right to you . They want a 1/2 deposit at the time of scheduling, so you would have to arrange the whole deal with them on your credit card or whatever, I, of course, would be the contact guy on this end to meet the driver and get it loaded. ANYBODY SERIOUSLY INTERESTED PLEASE CALL ME TO TALK OVER THE CAR AND THESE KIND OF DETAILS!!!
