Vehicle Detail

1958 Mercury Monterey Super Marauder. The car is for auction as is- where is. I will not ship or move it. The history is, it has been sitting for 45 years after the starter went out for the 3rd time. My Grandmother and Grandfather bought this car new and had lots of stories as to how fast this thing went back in the day. Now we are cleaning up the yard and rather then part it out we would like to see it go to someone that will appreciate how rare and collectible this car is. This may be the only four door Super Marauder ever built. As you can see from the pictures it is in rough shape. Please email with any questions BEFORE bidding. If you have low feedback and want to bid, email with your phone # or your bid will be denied. We would like all bidders to see the car themselves before bidding, but know this is not always possible so ask for pictures of anything you need to see. The reserve is set so this sells. This would be a one of a kind project, good luck. Kyle Busch wrote a great review about this engine package on The Examiner:[1958 Mercury Super Marauder - Rare and fast!September 27th, 2010 7:41 pm ET Many of today’s new cars have very similar looks, performance, gas mileage, etc.Yes, electric vehicles are on their way to our wall sockets! But in the meantime, what about a distinctive classic car such as the 1958 Mercury Super Marauder?Let’s take a look back! Actually, Mercury did not have a car named ‘Super Marauder,’ however, two powerful Mercury engines were called Marauders. Thus, the big news for 1958 were the 383 and 430 cubic inch engines. Marketed as the Marauder and Super Marauder, the larger powerplant enabled the 1958 Mercury to become the first American automaker to advertise a 400 horsepower engine.Features of the engines included: a 10.5:1 compression ratio, wedged-shaped combustion chambers designed into the block. Furthermore, the heads were designed to eliminate hot spots by not having any two exhaust valves positioned next to each other. The transmission was a three-speed manual, a three-speed manual with overdrive, or a Merc-O-Matic three-speed automatic.Up front the suspension consisted of unequal length upper and lower control arms with coil springs and stabilize bar. At the back, semi- elliptical leaf springs were used. The steering was ball and rack, and the brakes were 11 inch drums at the front and rear. The Super Marauder engine could be ordered with any of the following Mercury models - Medalist, Monterey, Montclair or Parklane.Of the Super Marauder Auto Trader Classics reports, “When equipped with a three-speed manual transmission, a Mercury Super Marauder couldn’t be beat, and was considered by many to be the first factory muscle car. It’s unknown as to how many Super Marauder Mercurys exist today, but with an estimated number less than 10, they are certainly a rare commodity.”A1958 advertisement about the car stated: “Take a drive right on this page with Mercury - Performance Champion for 1958.”In 1958 the MSRP of a two-door Montclair hardtop was $3,284. And today, depending on the condition, the car is priced at $6,425 - $18,100.At over 4,300 lbs., to be sure, no one pushes the classic 1958 Mercury Super Marauder around!]On Nov-04-10 at 11:22:35 PDT, seller added the following information:I just wanted to add after talking to a very knowledgeable bidder that this car " I have never seen an actual J code car and believe me I've looked. The data tag picture is very important because it is proof positive that Mercury factory produced the 430 6V cars. You might want to include this in the auction listing. If a buyers intentions are for the tripower and do not include restoring the car let me know. It would be a shame for this significant piece of history to end up scrapped. So if someone buys it only for the tripower assembly I would be interested in saving the car providing the data tag stays. FYI: I have a complete tripower so it could be returned to original." I will send pictures to anyone who request the door tag that matches the vin# I already listedOn Nov-04-10 at 12:19:47 PDT, seller added the following information:I added 2 pictures. 1 of the door tag and 1 of the sales receipt. On Nov-05-10 at 18:35:56 PDT, seller added the following information: Because of numerous requests, we are letting everyone know the reserve is $8,000.
