Vehicle Detail
I am the second owner of this original 1968 Porsche 912. It was purchase new by a late friend of mine who bought the vehicle in Oakland, California in the Spring of 1968. I have owned the car for approximately 5 years and it is my daily driver. Exterior: This is not a show car nor a trailer queen. The car is essentially rust free with a small spot I had repaired on the lower portion of the driver's side fender. There is some minimal surface rust under the weather stripping where the hood meets the front spoiler. The body has its original slate gray paint but with numerous chips and dings overall. In fact, the car was keyed two weeks after it was bought. The scratch runs from the front of the passenger door across the front fender. I know that many people would want to repair the dings and repaint the car. However, under my ownership, I left it original as I remember my friend driving it. It has the original steel wheels with original paint. I have the original brushed aluminum hubcaps which are considered in very good condition. I just liked the look of the stainless with black inserts. Tires are in very good condition with less than 10K miles on them. I also installed a 911 style spoiler on the front. Interior: I have had the interior refurbished with a new dash, new headliner, newly upholstered front seats and cocoa mats. The window and door weather stripping is all new with the exception of the driver's side wing window. I have the rubber but have not made the time for this last piece to get done. Electrical: All of the electrics on the car are in fine working order including the low / high beam indicator, wipers, lamps etc. The clock runs but pathetically slow. The original AM/FM/SW Blaupunkt radio receives but has volume control issues. It's always loud. All glass in the car is original with no delaminating. Mechanical: I have replaced the clutch assembly, rebuilt the generator, rebuilt the Weber carbs and installed a Bursch performance exhaust which has a very nice note to it. The wheel bearings and CV joints have been serviced. It has a new blower fan as well. The car has been extremely reliable as my daily driver. It does weep oil from the push rod tubes and that could use some attention. It has the factory 5 speed transmission. In short, this is a very original car that is comfortable to driver and is reliable on a daily basis. I have receipts totaling $8500.00 over the past 5,000 miles as the car sat for close to 7 years prior to my purchasing it and putting it back on the road.
