Vehicle Detail

RELISTED WITH LOWERED RESERVE!!! Also included in sale are four factory Mercedes alloys with new (fewer than 100 miles) tires, and 4 Kleen Wheels dust shields. For your consideration: A spectacular 1972 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3. If you are not familiar with these legendary cars, I would highly suggest doing your research before proceeding further, as there is enough information out there without me having to repeat it here. The hotel staff during my last trip repeatedly called me "Mr. President" based on the car's appearance. This is a very clean, southern California example, previously owned by the service manager of Palm Springs Mercedes-Benz. California blue plate conveys with car. 1972 was the last year of this model, with fewer than 375 made in that production year, and this one is unique in that it has European-style deep velour upholstery, and MB Tex in place of the wood strips on the doors. Car runs very strong and smooth, and is deceptively rapid. I have driven it 600 miles round trip without incident, and would drive it anywhere without hesitation. Recent service includes new water pump, valve adjustment, new MB spark plug wires, electronic ignition conversion, high output coil, complete service of all fluids (cooling system, engine oil, differential, power steering, air suspension dessicant), drive belts, valve cover gaskets, and valve adjustment (if you price out these parts and services, you will see how much has been spent to maintain this car's reliability). Interior is beautiful, rating at an 8.5 out of 10 (of course this is all subjective), the Macassar Ebony wood has only minute flaws, and there is just one small area where the stitching in the driver's seat has loosened (easily fixed). The exterior is spectacular, with the factory "Tunis Beige" paint (modern enthusiasts would call this champagne metallic). The paint rates at a 7, only because I had to have the hood repainted when the transporter damaged it (new windshield and seal was necessary as well), and while the paint match is dead on, a trained eye can see the newer finish. Brightwork has a lovely patina, and there is just one spot on the rear rubber bumper insert that has a chunk missing. There is no rust that I can see--I have included pictures of the rockers/undercarriage and trunk wells to confirm. Mechanically, as I said, you could drive this car anywhere. The few minor issues this car has are as follows: One exhaust-manifold gasket has a slight leak, the rubber intake sleeve is deterioration (a replacement is included in the sale), A/C requires service, and I noticed an occassional accumlation of brake dust on the right rear wheel, indicating a brake caliper that is not fully releasing at times. Air suspension works correctly, but if the car sits, the rear will sink after a couple days, and the front will follow later. I had been running the car on factory MB alloys, but have used those on another car, and this vehicle now rides on its factory steel wheels. I may have a set of correct MB bundt alloys separately available with new BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires, if you are interested in that purchase. Mileage is undoubtably actual, but due to the age, title reflects that mileage is in excess of mehanical limits of speedo. Custom-fit car cover will be included in the purchase. I really have no desire to sell this vehicle, as it is the jewel of my collection, however, divorce and loss of storage forces the sale. I am offering it at a relatively low reserve for a car of this caliber, but I am not giving it away. While I do not doubt the solidity of this vehicle, please understand that you are considering a 38 year old supercar, and anything can go wrong at any time, which brings me to the legalese: I strongly encourage potential bidders to come inspect the vehicle to resolve any questions before the end of the auction; and, I am not a fortune teller, and cannot predict future issues with the car. I am also not omnisicent--while I have tried to adequately describe any of the car's flaws, I can't be expected to know every wart and boil. Please understand that when you are the winning bidder, you own this car, WHERE IS, AS IS. Period. Being the winning bidder does not then give you the opportunity to take a test drive, have the car examined, or renegotiate the purchase price. If you do not understand, or accept, these simple terms, DO NOT BID. I will happily answer any reasonable questions you may have, but again, I encourage you to do your own research as to this model in general. I can hold the car for a limite time until you can come get it, or arrange for shipping, but my driveway is not your parking lot, so please have your plans in place before you bid. Failure to timely retrieve the car, or any issues regarding payment, shall result in forfeiture of your deposit (which is non-refundable in all cirumstances), and shall allow me to relist the vehicle. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time, for any reason. If you have fewer than 10 transactions on Ebay, you must contact me first before bidding--no exceptions. Apologies for all the tough talk, but I've seen enough as an eBay seller, and have unfortunately found it necessary to spell all this out. So, happy bidding, good luck, and enjoy!
