I am selling my 1973 VW Thing. I have had this car for about 15 years. It is a fun summer car but with a 16 yr old daughter and a 15 yr old son I need the garage space. The VW is a strong running toy and I have only put about 12,000 miles on it during my ownership due to only driving during sunny leisurely family drives and a few trips to VW shows in the Rockford / Chicago area. This VW should be able to drive anywhere but it is being sold AS-IS. Here is what I know: Engine has about 45,000 miles on it, Brakes, Tires, Clutch Carb and Generator have less than 12,000 miles on them, battery is about 4 years old. Original side curtain windows are in OK condition. Top is in poor condition but I have a new one from the Trim Shop that I have not had time to install that comes with the VW. The speedometer/odometer/gas gauge stopped working a few years ago and shows 39,000 miles but I have put about 5,000 miles on the VW since then. Only my guess but I believe to be a fair if not overstated guess. There are some surface rust areas and the worst is the rear quarter panels. The rust is not thru yet and the floor plans are solid, including where the battery sits. There are some stone chips from use, door dings from use and kids opening my wife's car door into this one.
