Vehicle Detail
For your consideration is my 1998 Jaguar XJR Supercharged 4.0 liter V8. It has what I believe is the most classy color combination which is the British Racing Green exterior with Oatmeal leather interior. The car is equipped with the dealer installed optional K40 radar system which has a front and rear sensor built into the vehicle with the indicator lights on the dash. This car was my daily driver until I just recently upgraded to a newer XJR last spring so it is time for her to go. The exterior of the car is in very good condition considering it is over 12 years old. The paint still holds a great shine, but with any 12-year-old car it has the expected dings, chips and scratches that are to be expected. I think a good clay bar detail would take the majority of the slight scratches and swirls out of the paint. There is one very small rust spot starting to show at the rear driver's side-wheel well that is barely noticeable. The leather interior is in great condition with the exception of some slight wear on the driver's seat upright section from getting in and out. The carpet and dash are in very good condition, but the ebony wood on the front and rear door trim is cracking due to the sun that is typical with the ebony trim panels. The headliner in the rear is also beginning to sag which is also common with this model. One of the main issues with the car is that the moon roof came off the track and is not currently functional - the electronics work fine just needs to be re-attached. Since I was purchasing another XJR, I decided to just seal the moon roof from the inside with duct tape to keep the vehicle weather tight. I have driven the car the past six months with no issues and it doesn't leak even when going through the car wash. You can fix it or just drive it as is. Mechanically the car runs and drives well. The car has been maintenance regularly by an experienced Jaguar mechanic and no expense was been spared in the past few years. All four Continental all season tires have approximately 10,000 miles on them and have plenty of tread left. Two of the four wheels are in excellent shape while the other two have blemishes on them including the full size spare tire and wheel. I only have one key and functioning fob, but I also have a passkey that will lock/unlock the doors. All the original owner's manuals come with the car. This is a very nice car that was just PA inspected and is valid until 8/2011. I have a clean PA title in hand. Please keep in mind that this is a 12-year-old vehicle and it is not showroom new and will have minor flaws in the paint and interior so please keep your expectations in line with a 12-year-old daily driver. Here are some additional details about the car: Over $6,000 has been invested in repair work over the past two years by an experience Jaguar mechanic. The following has been addressed: • New timing chain and timing chain tensioners - common issue with all 1998 and 1999 XJR’s – this was about a $3,000 job less than a thousand miles ago. • New rear shocks • New ignition coils, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs • Both front ball joints and wheel bearings replaced • Both fuel pumps replaced • New front rotors and brake pads • New battery • Only 10,000 on new Continental Compti Extreme tires Full disclosure of known issues so there are no surprises: • On heavy acceleration the car sometimes hesitates. My mechanic believes that the computer is trying to compensate for a possible weak supercharger. He believes that the supercharger will eventually need to be replaced, but it can be driven as is until the supercharger fails. I have been driving it occasionally for 6 months without issues. If you drive aggressively this should probably be done sooner than later. A remanufactured supercharger is approximately $800-$900 with a core exchange. • Moon roof is off the track and should be fixed. I sealed the roof with duct tape from the inside to keep it water tight and have been using the car this way for the past six months. It has been through the car wash w/o any leaking. I estimate about $800 to fix unless you do it on your own. • The drivers seat is not torn but is worn from getting in and out of the car (see pic) • The ebony wood door trim panels are cracking due to the heat over the years and is common with the ebony wood trim paneling. • Dash clock works, but the light is burnt out for night time use • Power mirror control switch cover is missing, but is still fully functional. • Air conditioner functions fine, but on the very hot days it struggles to keep the car cold and is probably due for a charge. • 6 Disc CD changer in the trunk operates but skips and needs to be serviced. • Rear deck speaker cracks at very high volumes, but OK at mid to low range (saw a replacement on eBay for $65 – easy fix) • Foldout cup holder in center console latch is broken and doesn’t stay shut. • Front cigarette lighter is missing in center console ashtray. • Car was equipped with the optional K40 front and rear radar sensors that function fine, but I haven’t ever figured out how to shut it off. • Original windshield is w/o cracks, but shows wiper etching due to the age • Only one very small spot of rust starting to pop out on rear drivers side wheel well. The spot is small and you need to look for it (see pic) • Numerous very minor dings, paint chips and slight scratches which are to be expected with any 12 + year old car. Please keep in mind that the pictures do not pick up much of this and the car still presents very well, but please keep in mind that the car is 12 years old and was my daily driver. • Paint shines well, but car could use a clay bar treatment to take out swirling and scratches. Blue book for this car is approximately $7,500, but my reserve is drastically less taking into consideration the cost to fix the moon roof, supercharger and other small items listed. Obviously the car can be driven as-is without the suggested repairs, but I have priced it accordingly. Please note that the car is advertised for sale locally and I have a right to end the auction early if the reserve has not been met.
