Vehicle Detail
You’re bidding on a 1964 MERCEDES-BENZ 220 SEC (W111 coupe). This car was originally built in Germany and imported to California by the first owner. I purchased it from a gentleman in California. I really hate selling her, but I need the room for other projects. I’ve had this car the last 5 five years with the intention of restoring it but never got around to it. It’s been stored in my storage garage all this time. It has a fairly well documented history which will come with the car. This car is complete and original per the VIN specifications. Some other features about this car: - Four wheel independent suspension - Disk brakes in the front - 4 speed manual gearbox - European spec headlight assemblies - Rare sunroof option - Three tone pneumatic horn CONDITION: The interior will need restored. The seats are of poor condition and covered in the original Cognac leather which will need reupholstered. The carpets will also need replaced. The wood will need restored as the clear is deteriorated and the vernier is damaged. The exterior is in relatively good shape for its age. The rear quarters, rear wheel wells and arches are in excellent condition with no rust. The rocker panel are also in pretty good shape including the seams with the exception of forward most section that ties into the lower front fender. This would need rewelded and should not be a difficult or costly to repair. The lower front fenders will also need some work but again the wheel arches are very good. Overall the front fenders are very good. The floor boards are excellent shape, which is rear for this model. The rear truck lid is very good…… no rust on lower seam/lip !! The inside of the truck is also petty good, but there is a little rust in the left side well. Again this should be an easy fix. Repair panels for these areas are commercially available. The engine ran very well until last year. It started to stumble a bit and over the course of a few months it just didn’t start anymore. I’m sure the injectors will need cleaned. Otherwise it ran remarkably quiet and no smoke. The previous owner had the top end rebuilt according to what he said and the support documentation backs this up. The engine also looks very clean indicating such work was performed. When the engine ran, I test drove the car. The gear box shifted fine and very smooth with little shift effort. I also amassed a few extra parts from a donor car which I will throw in with the car. These include a completed rear axle with suspension and wheel end equipment. Also I have two spare rear quarter panels and two fenders all in used, but fair condition. TERMS OF SALE This car is being sold as a non-running car in need of restoration. The car is being sold “as is” and there are no warranties either expressed or implied. This car has a clear title and has been described as accurately as possible. Full payment must be received within 3 days of auction. The car needs to be picked up and towed within two weeks from close of auction. If you have any questions, please ask, otherwise….happy bidding.
