Vehicle Detail

No Reserve auction is for a 1949 Studebaker truck, model number 2R15 with a clear title in my name. It's a one ton with an 8 foot box (122" wheelbase) and 17 inch wheels. It was a dually with a grain box on it when I got it (not included), but the wood was getting pretty bad. I removed that and replaced it with a pickup box from a '49 3/4 ton. The pickup box had a camper shell on it for years, so the bed is in good shape. It has a straight, solid floor with no rust holes and nice inner bed sides. I did drill a couple drain holes in the front corners because it held water and is beginning to rust there. It had a door in the back, so I don't have a tailgate for it. The old camper supports that fit in the stake holes are included along with the outer duals. The outer bed sides and fenders will need some work, but not badly rusted. The cab is in pretty good condition with some rust in the lower steps, cab corners, lower outer door skins and some spots in the floor. The left inner fender has some rust in the battery area also. The hardest to fix spot would be on the inner visor area thanks to mice. It's actually a pretty solid truck and makes the 34K mileage showing a good possibility, but I have no way of knowing that for sure. It's an old farm truck, so it's got some dents in the roof and other places as well as a tear in the grille. Click the photo link at the bottom of the description for over 150 pics of about everything good and bad. I believe it's the original 170 Champion six with a "crash box" non-syncro 4-speed trans. I didn't check the fuel tank, but bypassed it and used a 12V battery (unhooked the accessories) to get it running. The temp gauge showed it was getting hot, so I hooked up a test gauge. It didn't go above 165F after running it for about an hour with my test gauge and would only heat soak to 180F after I shut it off. I did remove the first three soft plugs and flushed everything I could along with the radiator and heater core. It holds 40+ pounds of oil pressure cold or under throttle and fully warmed up at idle it's around 10 pounds. I checked the compression warm with the throttle open and my gauge shows 105 across the board. It does have what sounds like some valve clatter (possibly a sticky valve), so at the very least they should be set. The noise does seem to go away as you rev it up, so I'm thinking valves or it could be unrelated. It doesn't seem to smoke too bad or make any knocking noises, but I can't say for sure what condition the internals are. The carb could use a kit and the vacuum advance isn't working, as a result it hesitates at low rpm's. The fuel pump leaks and needs to be primed to get things going, but I was able to run the truck with it. I didn't do anything with the brakes, but I'm sure they will need complete rebuilding. I made a short trip up and down the driveway in the video. The car seat was installed many years ago, but I'll include a seat frame setup from a '53 2R also. It fits the floor fine, but will need all the mounting holes drilled as the '49 uses a different mount. The gauges are pretty nice and the ignition has the original keys that fit both the switch and door. All the glass except the rear will need to be replaced, but it's all flat glass. I didn't check out anything electrical, but it looks like it will need some wiring at the very least. For a lot more of the bigger pics including many of the rusted areas click this link: http://s631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/mytoygarage/2R15/ Shipping is the buyers responsibility and arrangements should be made within 30 days. It does yard drive, but will be in-op for transport with no battery, fuel or brakes. Cash at pickup, or I will accept a bank check for payment if sending a shipper, but it will need to clear my bank before the truck or title go anywhere. Please e-mail me with any questions or to make an appointment to check it out in person. I've included a lot of pics here and in the link, but if you need one of a specific area, let me know. As stated in my description, I don't know how accurate the miles showing is. Today I put the truck up on stands to test run it through the gears and discovered the speedometer currently does not work. The speedo could have stopped working at any time, though I doubt a 45mph farm truck racked up a lot of miles. Please let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for looking.
