Vehicle Detail
If you're looking for a well-maintained, exceptionally clean older Mercedes, you'd be hard pressed to beat this one. Always garaged and well cared for, this 280E (same owner for 29 years) is a site to see. Specifics: Year: 1977 Make/Model: Mercedes-Benz 280E Chassis: W123 Mileage: 108,000 Engine: 6 cylinder, 144hp Fuel: Gasoline Mileage: 20 highway/15 city (estimates, based on current driver) Notes: Air conditioning, original Becker radio, sunroof, fog lights, all original documents (owner's manual, service manual, etc.) complete service record, original first aid kit, 2 older studded snow tires on separate rims. The car runs great, and has no issues or problems. It has been serviced by the same shop for many years and is known for its meticulous care of Mercedes-Benz cars (all receipts are present and available to be looked over). The last tune-up was roughly 10k ago. The car accelerates well, shifts smoothly and is quiet as a mouse on the road. The engine compartment is a bit dusty and greasy, but there are no signs of leaks or other problems; it's just a bit dirty. The brakes are in good condition. The tires are also in very good condition with many miles left on them. The suspension is tight and functions well. The alignment is straight, with no pushing, pulling or signs of unbalanced tire wear. Mechanically, it's in very good shape. About the only thing it could use is a tune-up, based on the amount of miles since the last one (Interested buyers are encouraged to contact the mechanic who worked on the car to get more info. Please email for the contact phone number). As far as the body goes, it is straight and true. The paint is in excellent condition with no chips, scratches or damage beyond normal road wear (in other words, very minor issues that can't be seen unless you look very closely). There are no rust issues, no paint loss and no fading or oxidation. All trim pieces are intact. Both bumpers are clean with no dents or dings. All external rubber is in great shape and shows no signs of UV damage. About the only thing I can find to point out is a very minor ding in the right rear quarter panel that's about the size of a small fingernail. If I didn't mention it, you might not even see it. The car received a new paint job some years back. It was done by a reputable shop that speciliazed in Mercedes and the car was painted its original color. Inside, again the car is very nice. Hopefully the photos tell the tale, but to reinforce what you're seeing, the upholstery is in excellent shape, with one minor tear (driver's seat). The dash is original and uncracked. All gauges, dials and internal lights are functional. All glass is original (unpitted) and all windows operate correctly. The floor mats are (you guessed it) original and are in great condition (they were protected by a second set of non-stock floormats). The headliner looks new, with no stains or signs of wear. The sunroof works, though it's been many years since it's been opened (the owner never opened it to protect the integrity of the seals). The trunk is clean as a whistle, with all the original tools intact. The driver's seat cushion is a bit flat and could use a rebuild someday. The story of the car: I am selling this car for my next door neighbors, who do not use ebay. The owners are quite meticulous and take very good care of all their belongings. The Mercedes was the wife's car. Over the past couple of decades the car has seen little use, and has had roughly 13k miles put on it since 1990. It's last "E" service was in 1993, roughly 10,000-11,000 miles ago. For my part it's been a pleasure to help sell the car. I must admit I've really enjoyed driving it around (to the mechanic for its check over, to the filling station and on its once-a-month "exercise" trips). I'm available to answer any questions, and am also happy to pass along the mechanic's number for more in-depth analysis. Scott Callahan Reno, NV 775 786-2632
