The Kougar marque was one that Simon had been aware of since the early-1980s during his apprenticeship at a famous historic Jaguar Racing car restoration company.It was at that Company where Simon worked on and rebuilt a fairly large number of original C- and D-type Jaguars that were still in active competition in historic racing events. One day, a Kougar Sport came into Simon's workshop looking like an old 1950's HWM Jaguar Grand Prix car. Needless to say, Simon and his fellow technicians were impressed at the sight of this tidy car. The driver of the Kougar requested that Simon fit up alloy cycle wings, an alloy bonnet with louvers, aero screens, a side-exit exhaust as the vintage D-type employed and a shorter nose with a MK2 Jaguar grille. Following the modifications, Simon and the other mechanics had the opportunity to drive the Kougar on the routine test route and were amazed how it performed both in handling and power with its Jaguar straight-six engine; it was their opinion that the mid-priced custom would handily outrun a D-type - yet only, at the time, for the price of a set of D-type wheels.That day changed Simon's future; under his leadership, Kougar has continued over the years to win countless racetrack and sprint events. Even today, the factory continues to sell in component form or complete built cars that are ready for road or race use alike. In addition to the new model, the Classic Kougar will again be available as an HWM-type racer; improved as an all-alloy bodied car with a space-frame based on Simon's experience in 1982 with all the old racing features.This extremely rare and very-original early Kougar spent the last 30 years of its life in a climate-controlled environment as part of a large classic sports car collection. Since it's assembly in Sussex, England, this car has never seen wet or humid weather and spent it's entire life between Southern California and Mexico. Never raced, it has likewise never received any damage since new. Pursuant to research carried out by the vendor, this particular car is one of just 315 and was a prime candidate for a recent comprehensive rotisserie restoration. During this process, the car has received a thorough and complete overhaul of its Jaguar engine, transmission and rear end overhaul. All the fuel lines were replaced and the car's brakes and exhaust systems were upgraded to stainless steel. Its exterior finish wears the best modern urethane materials on the market today while inside, the dashboard, instrument panel and gauges remain as-built from the factory less a slight clean up. Never molested or maltreated, this early example of a legendary special sports racing car is ready to be put through its paces or just enjoyed as a fair-weather grand-tourer.
