Vehicle Detail
No Reserve auction is for a 1957 Studebaker Transtar Deluxe, model number 3E5-112 with a clear title in my name. It's a 1/2 ton short box (112" wheelbase) with the one piece windshield and large back window. Originally it came with the 185 straight six and a three speed trans. Those are gone and a 1954 170 Studebaker Champion six with overdrive are currently installed (home made trans mount). The truck was driveable with this setup before it was parked many years ago, but the motor stuck from sitting and everything mechanical will need to be rebuilt before it's driveable again. I removed the head and got the engine free, but there is some pitting on the rear cylinders and a few very pitted valves. I put the head back in place with the old gasket and didn't try to get it running. I don't know the condition of the trans or rear, but I did remove the stuck brake shoes, so it rolls easily. I believe the truck originally was Arctic White over Coppertone Poly with paint code 5767 and trim code 6051. It's been painted a couple times right over the top of the original paint with blue and red. The cab will need replacement panels for the floor, steps and cab corners, but most panels are available for these trucks. The front fenders will need repair panels for the back and they have a couple welded cracks that need better finishing. The rear fenders have matching rust holes at the very front bottom edge near the box and will need some straightening also. The doors are pretty bad on the bottom and will probably need to be replaced (right lower hinge area is completely gone). The hood, radiator support, inner fenders, and firewall are all in useable shape with surface rust. The frame and front frame to cab mounts have surface rust, but look to be in good shape. The bed floor is very rust scaled and is pushed down some in the back half, but feels solid. The tailgate has some small holes in the hinge tube area and has a lot of surface rust and pitting. The bed sides are pretty straight, but have been banged around some on the back edges. The fiberglass grill panel isn't broken, but the gell coat is thin in a few places. It will need all new interior panels along with seat covers and foam (spring inserts are included). The glass will need to be replaced, but the back window could be used as is with only minor imperfections. I replaced the speedometer, so the miles showing are not correct. I can't really make out what the original speedo reads, but it looks like 65K. It steers and rolls easily with new tubes in all the tires, so there shouldn't be any problems for transport. If you were thinking about installing a Stude V8 setup, I have a parts truck with a '59 289/HD T-85 three speed. Winning bidder gets first shot at buying it before I list it complete or part it, but is not included in this auction. The parts truck also has better doors, but would still need some work on the outer skins. For a lot more of the bigger pics including many of the rusted areas (pics of the parts truck on page 5) click this link: http://s631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/mytoygarage/Transtar/ Shipping is the buyers responsibility and arrangements should be made within 30 days. Cash at pickup, or I will accept a bank check for payment if sending a shipper, but it will need to clear my bank before the truck or title go anywhere. Please e-mail me with any questions or to make an appointment to check it out in person. I've included a lot of pics here and in the link, but if you need one of a specific area, let me know.
