Vehicle Detail

Good re-furbished condition, daily driver. 4 spd manual, 1600cc engine w/single carb (new). Recently serviced and running good. I have been using this vehicle as a daily commuter car, and spent the last couple of years fixing it up. The list of things I've done is fairly extensive, I pulled it apart except for the front and rear windshield and repainted, adding new body seals to most areas, new lights/lenses etc. I replaced the outer window scrapers etc..Also pulled the motor, cleaned it up and put in a new clutch/throwout bearing and new brakes all around including a new brake master cylinder, new hard and soft lines and new wheel cylinders. Also put in new wheel bearings to all four wheels and repacked the rear axles/cv joints. I cleaned up all the surface rust on the pan (very light), sprayed rust preventative and then undercoated the pan, which is quite solid. The only real rust (besides superficial surface) I found was in and around the rear window air intake on the passenger side, which I attempted to repair. Apparently I did not do a good enough job with the Bondo and now it is cracking, but the body work is ok, I'm just not much talented in that dept. That said, it looks great from 10 feet out. Anyhow it was good enough for me, I never wanted a show car, just a great VW to drive around and enjoy. I cleaned up the inside with new seat covers front and back and some floor mats. The heaters work, but the defrost does take some time to kick in in the winter. I have a new wiring harness, a new starter and new window seals for front, back and side windows and assorted misc parts for the next willing owner who wants to install those. The good: the engine had been rebuilt by the previous owner, maybe 5000 miles ago? and it runs very good. The car is rust free and looks, drives good. Installed a new alpine stereo with iPod connection. Seems to get good mileage, although I've not tracked that. The suspension is stock height and drives nice, no shimmy or shake in the front end like most superbeetles, plus I added new coil over shocks to the rear. All the turn signals and brake lights work, car starts quick and runs good once warmed up. I installed a new windshield washer fluid tank recently that works nicely dispensing much needed cleaning fluid to the windshield. Installed new carb last year after completely sealing the fuel tank, so no rust or grime to worry about there. Tires are new with 95% tread life remaining. Brakes completely gone thru and new (within the last 2 years) and I've put new seat belts for the two front passengers. Headliner is good with only minor tears below the side windows which I've done my best to patch up. The not so good: the aforementioned body work/paint job would be a problem for somebody who is picky, although I've gotten many people tell me what a nice looking bug I have. The air blower fan is not working, so fresh air is dependent on how fast you're traveling and whether or not you have the window down. One of the new headlights stopped working on dim, but I always use the hi-beam anyhow. The lock for the front trunk is not hooked up although I believe it could be with a replacement part. There is a crack in the front windshield that had been sealed, but has started cracking again. The Transmission is getting old and will need to be rebuilt in the next couple of years. The trans mounts are going and the shifting is getting tough to handle w/o a bit of patience. Shifting down into 2nd gear requires being in the right rpm range and being sure you're really all the way in third is important, lest it 'pop' out. That said I drive it all over with very little hassle. I'm overly critical of the vehicle here in the description, but want to make sure you know that this is an old vehicle and that it is represented fairly. It's in great shape for how old she is, and have gotten positive feedback on the car and a few 'thumbs-up' from other drivers around town. This is neither the best Super Beetle in town, nor the worst by a long shot, being an un-restored car. I keep my cars clean and in the best shape I can. Please feel free to contact me to arrange to see/drive her (Elka). Reserve is set at a fair price. I would be glad to deliver anywhere in Central Oregon, I cannot arrange shipping beyond that, but I'd be more than glad to coordinate with whatever vehicle shipper you've arranged with. Thanks for looking and Happy Bidding!
