Vehicle Detail
1983 Mercedes- Benz 240d EuroVEHICLE IS 1983, NOT 1980. EBAY WOULD NOT LET ME SELECT 1983 FOR THE DESCRIPTION. VIN# WDB12312312403971 I bought this car in the summer as a second because I have always wanted one, but have since realized that I am too busy with school to enjoy it. From what I understand, this vehicle was imported from Switzerland. It includes the original safety kit that is in German. The original manual is also in German. I believe the car was never or almost never driven in winter. This car has a smooth shifting automatic transmission. The mileage on the car at the time of posting this is 114,189. This is extremely low for these cars as you most likely know. For a car that is almost 30 years old, the paint is very shiny. It has a few minor imperfections, which is expected. This includes a couple bondo spots and some paint scratches/peeling which can be seen in the pictures. Very little if any rust on the car. The back bumper has a dent in it, most likely from the previous owner backing into something. The vacuum operated locks work as they should, a lot of these cars have issues with the locks not working because of vacuum leaks. All electronics work on the car as they should, minus the clock and the radio. The clock turns but it does not keep time correctly, and the radio is "touchy". The car fires right up at start. HOWEVER, it idles rough sometimes. This is most likely due to injectors, as I have tested compression and it is good. I am also including a compression test kit with the car. Since owning the car I have done a valve adjustment and replaced both the primary and secondary fuel filters. There is a small oil drip, nothing that affects the oil level and this is most likely common on a vehicle of this age. The interior is in excellent shape. The headliner seems to sag a bit towards the rear. I have some service records from the previous owner. At approx 63k miles the vacuum pump was replaced. At approx 103k miles there is a bill for $4894.08. This includes a complete overhaul of the brake system, new injection primer pump, fuel hose replacements, injection pump gaskets, new battery, new glow plugs, new engine gaskets (front/valve cover/intake manifold), all new drive belts, new alternator, new timing chain/tensioner. The A/C does not work, however the fan will blow heat strong. There is an exhaust leak where the downpipe ends, as indicated in the provided picture. I would recommend new tires for the car. Feel free to ask me any questions/take a test drive if you are local. Just e-mail me for my cell number. Also let me know if you would like additional pictures. I have made my best effort to be as honest as possible. Seeing as the car is almost 30 years old, it is being sold AS-IS.
