Vehicle Detail

RELISTING AT NO RESERVE:I am pleased to offer an extremely original and un-molested 1970 300SEL 6.3 (W109) sedan from my personal collection. This is a two owner car that was well taken care of. The car drives very nicely, as it should. It began its life with its first owner in Denver, Colorado. The first owner’s neighbor (the fellow who I bought it from) bought the car in 1983 and took it with him to Arizona. He subsequently brought the car to his house in Northern, Washington, where I discovered the car. The car has 118,000 documented miles and comes with most of its original manuals and books. I purchased this particular car because of its originality. The car has nearly all of its original factory decals showing. It has all original paint, leather and wood. It sports its original spare tire in the trunk, original toolkit and suspension buffers. It even has the original plastic tape on most of the stainless steel sill chrome. This was supposed to be removed by the dealership prior to delivery to the customer. The car has also had a complete stainless steel exhaust system installed. I was also impressed with this particular car because the car is rust free besides a few tiny areas of surface rust on the underside. VIN#10901812005239 PaintThe paint on the car is stunning in 542G Dunkelrot or Dark Red. I refer to it as Burgundy. There is nothing comparable to the luster and brilliant shine of factory Mercedes paint. The paint on the car is all original. There are quite a few little rock chips between the headlights and the grill. There are also few small scratches and imperfections on the body, as should be expected from a 40 year old car. Besides the small imperfections, the paint is extremely nice and polished up beautifully. BodyThe body of this car is quite straight. The car has never been in an accident. Unlike most 6.3’s, this car has hot had the rear panel bashed in. The car has 3-4 little door dings and one larger 2 inch ding on the front left fender. It is a slight imprint in the metal.LeatherThe gorgeous factory parchment leather in the car is in very nice shape. The leather is still supple and is very presentable. There is slight discoloration on the left rear door panel, but it is not too noticeable. There is also some small cracking on some of the seat bottoms. The drivers seat bottom is the only piece that needs to be replaced; it has major splits.OptionsThis car comes with the all best options that were typically ordered such as the sunroof and the rear reading lamps.CarpetsThe dark red carpets in the car are original and show nearly no wear. There are a few small spots, but they are extremely nice and do not need replacing.WoodThe wood in the car macassar ebony (some people incorrectly call it zebrano wood) and shows its age on the areas where the sun hits it. The dash fascia wood is in the best shape with only slight hazing in the finish. The vertical window pieces and the dash bow have the worst cracking in the finish and would need re-finishing.ChromeThe chrome on this car is extremely nice. There are NO dings or dents on the bumpers or mouldings. It shines up beautifully. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being best, I would rate the chrome it an 8.5.The only issues with the chrome are a small ding on the grill and two dings on the drivers mirror. The mouldings around the windows are near perfect. Those are anodized aluminum and typically are cloudy and hazy.GlassNot much to say about the glass , it is perfect - free of all cracks, pitting and chipping.ExhaustThe car has a stainless steel exhaust in perfect condition.ElectricalAll windows work perfectly. All lights work as they should. The sunroof is in working beautifully. Motor / MechanicalsThe engine bay sports most of its original Gemi hose clamps, engine decals, original spark plug wires, and beautiful original paint. The engine is strong and runs nicely. The transmission shifts smoothly and is not jerky. The air suspension valves were replaced 10 years ago with rebuilds from Star Motors. The front left corner of the car drops overnight. The rest of the car stays up indefinitely. The brakes have been completely rebuilt in the past 2 years.TrunkIn the trunk of the car, you will find the original suspension buffers, toolkit, untouched jack and wheel chocks. The main attraction is the original spare Dunlop SP57 tire.Known Issues:I would recommend a thorough tune-up. The radio does not work. The car also needs the exhaust manifold gaskets replaced. The air suspension drops in the left front of the car. I would assume this is one of the height control valves.SummaryMost of the 6.3’s you see on ebay have been through many hands and have been neglected. It is also common to find 6.3’s have been re-painted numerous times and have all sorts of non-original or incorrect parts installed. This fine example has slipped through the cracks and awaits its new caring owner. Why I am selling?I am an absolute fanatic about M-100 cars, particularly the 300SEL 6.3. I have been lucky enough to own over 10 of them. I am selling this beauty because I need space. Payment / Auction Details?I will contact the winning bidder via email after the auction ends.
