Vehicle Detail

1963 Lotus Elite Series II, stage II, rare LHD. The car has approximately 12,500 original miles and is super original. The Elite was purchased new at Ecurie Shirlee (Bob Challman Motors) in Manhattan Beach, California and has always been garaged. This Elite, #1359, still carries the same original paint from when it was purchased new in 1963. It also carries the California registration / license plate "63 Elite". The original Ecurie Shirlee license plate frame is still with the car and it's the only second one I've ever seen. An unfortunate carburetor fire has caused damage to the engine compartment and surrounding body. The fire was limited in the upper area of the engine compartment and did not affect the lower structural areas (see photos). I was told by a fiberglass expert that the damage could be easily repaired, but I decided to order a complete new upper front front clip and inner panels from David Mousley, the Type 14 Elite specialist in England. The new owner can decide whether to repair the existing fiberglass or have the new fiberglass fitted. I've also purchased most if not all the other parts needed to repair the car. The new parts include new carbs, recored radiator, master cylinders, carpet jute, all rubber gaskets and seals (windshield, doors, bootlid, steering shaft couplers and rack gaiters, and so on and so on...). The engine ran perfectly and was leak free - it only has 12,513 original miles and was always babied and never raced - but I do have a complete new gasket set for the engine in case you want to install it as preventive maintenance. The interior is all original and is in remarkable condition for being nearly 50 years old. The original carpet is still in reasonably good condition with the exception of the end of the driver's side floor mat, the part that goes up the bulkhead behind the brake / clutch pedals. That small area of the carpet was damaged by fire. This car still has its original bumpers, side windows and other little parts that were often damaged or discarded on the Elites. It even still has the original little brass fire extinguisher. I have an extensive history file with old service and parts receipts and Lotus Elite news letters. On Sep-12-10 at 19:46:23 PDT, seller added the following information: For anyone that's interested, I listed my 1966 Elan S3 on eBay tonight. It's item number 120621037298. I'm also probably going to list my LHD 1962 Ogle Mini race car later this week, after I take a few photos. It's a rare, unique and interesting car.
