Vehicle Detail
1962 Saab 96 3-cyl 2-stroke 2-door CAR!!! First off, I'm not a Saab guy. I bought this car from someone else who also wasn't a Saab guy. I've learned much since buying the car 9 years ago, but i'm still Far from an expert. I've been advised by a couple Saab enthusiasts that the car is mistitled and is actually a 1960 model, based on the pull-start ignition lever and the VIN # which both point to it being so. However, in my home state (ND) it's a pain to get a car retitled, plus I lack the Saab knowledge to prove it. Therefore I'm selling it as a 1962, and if you think you can get it retitled, good luck :) PLEASE GOTO THIS SITE! http://www.basspaintingplus.com/saabpics supersize pics and study them for specific areas of damage. Please Look Well so there's no surprises when you come to pick up your car. Ask any questions at least 24 hours before auction end if you have em. Comes w/ an extra transmission i got with the car (I believe it's a 4 speed...) & most of an extra waterpump/generator. The glass is all good, at worst a bit of grit damage, but no cracks or chips I can see. Body is Very Solid, and the car is totally worthy of a full restoration. I love this car, but i've had it too long, meaning to fix it but never getting around to it. I'd rather someone else had the car who has the time and drive to restore it. 3 speed transmission with 3 in the tree style shifter. Outside: Common areas of rust damage for these cars are affected here. There is a rust hole under the driver's feet floorboard. When I got the car I wire brushed and Rust Inhibited the area around the hole, then installed a thin metal floor across the front floorboards & covered it over with grey auto carpet. A bit of rust in the wheelwells, and a spot under the back seat (on the inside). Other spots on the body have surface rust, but the engine cavity looks good (tho very greasy in the pan). Some chrome has pit dmg (back bumper especially) although the chrome around the windows looks nice. The 2nd to the last yahoo who had the car drilled holes for non-original chrome. There is a dent under the rear pass side taillight. Interior: Decent amateur carpet job over the new metal floor. otherwise the interior is in rough shape. see pics! Original Blaupunkt radio and speaker are present. Dash pad is cracked, front seats torn, and the back seats are shredded. Headliner was mangled, so i removed it and never got a new one up. The wire hangers come with the car tho. Has a key for power turn-on, then a pull lever to actually start the car. Engine: Starts and runs good. Radiator seems solid and in good condition. As you can see in the pics the heater box under the hood is quite cracked & would need repair; I'm not sure how the core is, I've just left the box intact. Water pump appears to work fine, but the generator doesn't seem to be charging. Extra armature and case w/ fields both come with the car. possible you can make a good generator from it all but I don't know for sure. Tires are weatherchecked, but they hold air pretty well. 1 hubcap is original, the other 3 are cool looking spinner caps. OK! not to scare you away, but the car has its problems. I don't want someone to come to North Dakota to pickup the car and be unpleasantly surprised. For someone who loves vintage Saabs, this car could be fixed to drivable condition w/ a thorough tuneup, the generator fix & seat covers. Other minor problems like signal lights aren't working, horn doesn't honk, etc. $200 deposit due within 24 hours of auction end. NON-REFUNDABLE. Remainder of balance due within 7 days of auction end. If you end up not paying the full balance within the specified timeframe (without my approval), the $200 deposit will cover my Ebay costs & I will relist the car. Low feedback bidders (under 20) MUST contact me prior to auction end to show you're serious, otherwise i'll cancel your bid. Bidders with overly negative ratings will have their bids cancelled. Questions please inquire 24+hours before auction end. As long as the car is paid for it can sit here (outside) until the end of the year. I would possibly meet you part way with the car if you wanted to pay my fuel and lodging expenses in order to save yourself pickup time. After auction end we'll exchange email addresses and figure out the details.
