Vehicle Detail
Very solid and strong running 1960 Buick LeSabre Convertible. I purchased the car with the intent of restoring it but the car really is too good to restore. As luck would have it, I was then offered a '59 that was restored and elected to purchase that car making this one available. The '59 is not for sale...this one is. This car was an Oklahoma car from new and resided there until at least the mid 1980's as attested to by the inspection sticker still on the car window. In 1990, it was purchased at the Kruse Auction for $20,000 by a lovely family who was in the military. They owned the car for 20 years, garaged it and drove it extensively in the summer months between upstate NY (their assigned military base), Virginia and Kentucky. The car handled well and they told me when I purchased it that they took great pride in driving and maintaining the car. I purchased the car earlier this year as I said with the intent of restoring it. When it arrived, I was surprised to find it better than I expected. There is no rust or rust repair anywhere on the car. The sheet metal is excellent and in my opinion, the extent of the work done on the car in 50 years is one repaint (aside from normal maintenance and wear items of course). The paint is hardly perfect showing evidence of much driving enjoyment over the years. There are cracks and chips throughout but as I mentioned before, NO rust or rust repair. The bumpers and front grill are both excellent originals and it is obvious from the condition that this cars life was spent in a garage when not being driven. The side trim is also very good with the exception of the drivers side rear trim piece which has a 6 inch flat spot (see the pictures). The car was not damaged but the trim was in whatever happened. The trim can be repaired for $36.00 per inch. The engine is the original engine and is very tight. It has good compression and runs nearly silently. The engine bay I would call 'dirty original' but the car runs cool and accelerates and shifts great. I will say again that it is very apparent that the owners over the last 20 years took great pride in maintaining this car in very good reliable running condition. The underside is totally original as well and completely rust and repair free. All of the controls and instruments are excellent (and look that way too). They all work. The car has an original AM Sonomatic Buick radio which might have been the only option ordered with this car. The heat and vents work as new..in fact, I can't think of anything that does not work on this car. It starts right up and drives really well. Please note that there is a non-matched tire on the car. The match is in the trunk (it can easily be seen in the photograph). The car had a flat along the way and I haven't thought to swap the tires back yet. Even the interior courtesy light ALL work...every last one of them! The top is about five years old...in very good shape. It is power and goes up and down in under ten seconds (each way). The original boot is with the car and is shabby but functional (see pics). I think that about covers it. I am happy to consider reasonable offers at any time. I can be reached at 860-883-3998. The car is a great runner. If not for the '59 coming my way, I probably would have cleaned up the engine bay and drove the heck out of this car. I have a ton of pictures so please just ask.
