Vehicle Detail
1974 Ford F-100 XLT Ranger Pickup Up for auction with a very reasonable reserve is a 1974 Ford F-100 XLT Ranger pickup. This has a factory 390 V-8, C6 automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. The odometer reads 24,500 miles most likely 124,500 but not 100% sure. This truck was originally from Oklahoma. I have the original warranty plate and owners manual. Below is a description of each area with both the good and anything I have found that will need attention. BODY: There is no body cancer anywhere to be found nor have I discovered any body filler. All of the usual places where you would normally find considerable rust and need to spend potentially thousands of dollars in parts and labor to repair are solid. Look at the photos. It also appears in its 36 years of life it was not used as a farm or work truck so there’s very little in the way of major dents or dings (there are a few minor imperfections as you can see in the photos but nothing major). It was repainted at one time with the original two-tone blue. If you wanted to make the body of this truck really nice it would need very minor bodywork and paint. If I had to say anything bad about the body it would only be that some of the XLT trim is bent up which you may want to straighten or replace and there are a few holes on the sides of the bed where someone mounted tie down hooks at one time. INTERIOR: The interior is nice given the age of the truck. It’s not perfect but very presentable as is. The seat has a cover on it and it looks to be in decent shape underneath with the exception of a few minor separations in the stitching. The headliner is decent as well as the door panels, dash and carpet. It could all use a good cleaning. It has an old aftermarket cable type cruise control device installed (pretty cool but wouldn't use it). DRIVTRAIN: The 390 cubic inch V-8 runs very well. It starts up easily, does not smoke or make any troublesome noises and has good oil pressure. The C6 automatic transmission shifts fine both when cold and at normal operating temperature. The rear differential sounds good and makes no strange noises either. I had the truck checked over for Pennsylvania State Inspection and it needs exhaust manifold gaskets and rear brake shoes. It also has a power steering fluid leak that I believe can be repaired with a new shaft seal. The AC system is all there but it does not function. FRAME/SUSPENSION: The frame and suspension are in great shape. There is a minor amount of scale here and there but no rot. It looks to have had newer shocks and bushings installed recently and the tires are in excellent shape. I have the original hub caps. ELECTRICAL: All lights, signals and horn operate as well as the heater blower motor. The only issue I’m aware of that will need to be repaired which was discovered during the PA inspection is the license plate light needs to be replaced. OVERALL: This is the kind of vehicle that with very little work you could drive as is and fix up while keeping on the road. I know this isn’t a $10,000 truck but it’s not a $1000 truck either. It remains very original, drives surprisingly well and it’s only a matter of time before these later round headlight F100’s go up in value. I pride myself in providing an honest description of the vehicles I sell but I’m not a professional mechanic either. As with any vehicle of this age, there may be other areas that will need attention. I cannot warranty this vehicle nor express any guarantees and I am selling it as is. Please look over the photos and ask any questions through E-Bay prior to bidding or purchasing. I have additional photos that I can e-mail to you as well. Anyone who is nearby and would like to inspect the vehicle in person is more than welcome, just e-mail me and we’ll set something up. I have a clear PA title for simple transfer of ownership. Thank you for your consideration.
