So we bought this Mazda from her. She has had the car for almost 2 years and 50k miles and has loved it. And now I have been personally driving it as well. My sister was the second owner of this car. I actually was with her when she bought it. It came from a retired couple. This was their third car. They sold it because they were moving back and forth between Richmond and Idaho for family and no longer wanted this extra car to move around. Some how the carfax actually shows 5 owners but this is not correct. We suspect it has to do with moving back and forth. The first couple bought it brand new and when they sold it to my sister they actually gave her the original title. Thus, this is really a 2 owner car. First Impression: When you first glance at this Mazda you see a Sporty Red Car then you see the practical and convenient station wagon that it is. It looks great and is still suited for anyone that is looking for a nice riding car with lots of seating and storage space. Don't get caught up in the debate, some call it a 4 door hatchback, some call it a station wagon, but everyone will call it Awesome! love driving it! Exterior: The Exterior of this Protégé 5 looks Great! Definitely not your average station wagon. The Sporty Red paint is still glossy with lots of luster. For the year and miles, this car looks and drives great. You will find everything you need on this Mazda from the roof rack to the fog lights to the rear window wiper. Overall, this wagon looks great. There are side body moldings and lower body moldings that matches the body color. These are what helps to set off the sportiness of this wagon. The door handles and side view mirrors as well as the bumpers are also the same red. The front view offers again a very sporty look with matching red bumper and fog lights. There is a touch of black on the upper and lower grill. The iconic Mazda emblem is in the center of the upper grill. The headlights are nice. This Mazda just passed the rigorous Virginia State Safety Inspection and is valid thru 08/2011. There is a black roof rack on top of this wagon just in case you can’t fit everyone and everything inside. You will also notice the “zoom zoom” decals on each of the rear windows. The gas tank is opened from the inside of the cabin. This Mazda is riding on p195/50 /R16 tires and factory Alloys. I did notice some minor curb chew and some oxidation and chipping on the driver rear wheel. This is very normal and consistent with the age and mileage of the vehicle. The rear view of this Protégé 5 is sportier than your average wagon. There is a rear spoiler back here with a center mounted brake light. This rear window also has its own wiper. With minimal budging back here and rounded out brake lights, this Mazda again is not your average station wagon….It is much cooler!! Overall, this Mazda’s exterior is in better condition than what I would expect for this year and mileage. There are a few minor scratches and I do notice a small dent on the front driver side panel near the hood. Not highly noticeable and I don’t even think you can see it in the pictures. I also noticed some scratches on the top of the rear bumper and over the driver side door. Obviously where my sister was trying to load stuff into the back and onto the top of the car. I do notice some very mild road rash on the front. These again are not very noticeable and I don’t think you can even see them in the pictures. Again, overall the condition of the Exterior is slightly better than what I would expect to see for this year and mileage. I feel very confident about this car since I know my sister had it for the last 50k miles. She used it as your commuter car, driving it to and from work. Interior: The interior of this Mazda is done in Dark Gray sport cloth and black. It looks really sharp with the red exterior. The seating surfaces are all in good shape and there is minimal wear. I would expect more knowing my sister and her 3 year old son :) The 2 front seats are multi adjustable and are super comfortable. I have put many miles on this car and have yet to find anything I don’t like about it. The front is upholstered in gray sport cloth with patterned inlays to give a little splash, nothing to flashy. Each front seat has an adjustable head rest. The rear bench seat can hold 3 more adults comfortably. There are child seat anchors back here. There is also the same upholstery as in the front. This seat back folds down in two sections so that you can customize the cargo/seating for the back. There are also cup holders back here as well. The rear cargo area is super convenient. There is a ton of room back here especially if you put the rear seat down. Even with the seat up you can fit about anything you might need. The spare tire is located underneath. I do notice some staining back here not sure what it is. Not unusual for a vehicle of this year and mileage though. There are also tie hooks to secure any thing you may need to. The hatch back here lifts up in one piece making loading and unloading really easy to do even one handed. The drivers side dash area is fully equipped with whatever you may need. There are power locks with remote keyless entry, power windows with child lock, and power mirrors all located on the driver side door. Down on the floor you will find the remote release for the gas tank. The steering wheel is in great condition. It is dark gray with the silver Mazda Emblem in the middle. The gauge panel houses all of your standard gauges. They have white back grounds which gives a sporty feel to this wagon. The odometer is digital and easy to read. The cruise control is located on the steering column. With all of the controls so easily within reach this Mazda is a breeze to drive. Overhead you have visors with vanity mirrors. I do notice some staining on the liner overhead. It appears like something may have been splashed. Again, pretty minor for this year and mileage vehicle. The center console houses the audio system and climate control. The audio system includes a cd player and an AM FM Tuner. The digital tuner is easy to use and read. The AC is super cold and works very quickly. There is an unused ashtray and lighter element which can be used for a cell phone charger. In between the seats is the gear shifter. There are also 2 built in cup holders. They have a lid that comes down and covers. There is also a covered storage area. This can be opened or closed. Overall the interior is in better condition than I would expect. There may be a few small flaws as noted. But overall I would be happy to put anyone in the car. Inside and outside it is in better condition than what I would expect for the year and mileage. Under the Hood: The mechanics of this Mazda are in fantastic condition. This car just passed the VA State Safety Inspection with no problems. My sister drove this car for 50k miles and she always maintained it and fixed anything that went wrong. I would even say that my sister and brother in law border on neurotic when it comes to the maintenance of their cars. Every scheduled maintenance and recommended repair they had professionally performed without hesitation. Everything operates exactly as it should including the engine and transmission. Mechanically this Mazda is fantastic. I would drive this car anywhere, anytime. Driving Impressions: Driving this Mazda is easy and fun. The automatic transmission, cruise control, cd and keyless entry all make this a great car to drive. Throw in the extra cargo space from being a wagon and there is not much more you could ask for.
