Vehicle Detail

This is a 1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z convertible, with a 305 cubic inch Tuned Port injected engine, and a 5-speed T5 manual transmission. This is a factory original convertible, designated by the sixth digit in the VIN, which is a 3. ASC did the conversions for General Motors, but not all cars that ASC converted are considered factory convertibles, as ASC accepted cars from sources other than GM, like dealers or even private individuals. This car by virtue of the "3" in the sixth position of the VIN is a "factory" convertible. There were 1,294 IROC-Z factory convertibles produced in 1990, the last year for the model, with roughly 200 of these equipped with a manual transmission. Honestly this car is the "needle in the haystack" that you can't find. I spent five years searching for this exact car, and finally found it in 2006. It breaks my heart that I have to sell it, but sometimes life kicks you when you are down. So as you must be wondering, after extolling the virtues of this model, what's actually wrong with it. I had original purchased this car with the intention of a full restoration (I restored another Camaro in the past), but life got in the way. It has been sitting since January 2009. I purchased this car in Arizona (an original California car) in 2006, and for a short period moved back to my home state of Pennsylvania. I took the car with me. I drove it while living in PA, and in the winter of 2008 I brought it back with me to Arizona. I drove it until the Pennsylvania registration ran out in December 2009, and it has been sitting ever since. You will see in the pictures there is sun damage on the upper right door and fender. This occurred over the last year and a half as the car has just been sitting in my driveway. The morning desert sun is brutal on anything here facing east. Like any high mileage car the suspension needs new rubber bushings, coil springs, and shocks. The driver seat needs a re-upholstery shop, which can be seen in the pictures. The car was professionally repainted (the right way) years ago, but it has some battle scars in addition to the faded area on the right side. The dash pad cracked from the heat over the last year, which you can also see in the pictures. Like all high mileage small blocks the valve guide seals are worn. So when you first start it after it sits for a while you get a puff of smoke. This does dissipate though after a couple seconds. The rings are still good! Lastly the insulation layer under the canvas top has succumbed to the Arizona heat. It flakes off and falls down on the seats. You can see some of this in the pictures. Next let's talk about the good. The brakes are fine, and do not need any work. I just put a new battery in it two weeks ago, and she fired right up. I've driven her around my neighborhood, and the engine is running good, and the transmission is shifting great. I was surprised that she fired up right away considering how old the gas is, but I did put stabilizer in the tank when I first parked the car. That proved to be a good move. The Yokohama tires have practically new tread still. Honestly you could drive this car home if you really had to. I am not the original owner, but as far as I can tell this car has never been in any type of serious accident. This is one of the reasons I bought this car. There are no signs of any serious body work. Lastly, the top is not the original. It was replaced with a top that is better than the original factory top. The rear window is glass, not the cheap factory plastic window. The material is a really nice heavy canvas. So at this point you may be wondering why you should buy this car. I'm hoping there is a buyer out there that can appreciate what this car truly is. There are plenty of third generation Camaros still out there, but this car is a rare gem. Last year for the IROC-Z, convertible, and a manual transmission. People who have these cars know what they have, and don't often let go unless they don't have a choice. This car just needs a new owner who can truly appreciate that she is the best of the breed, and someone who is willing to bring her back to her former glory. I would not be selling if I could afford to keep the car. The sad reality is that in 2 months I'll be moving into a small apartment, and I will no place to keep it. My income is half of what is used to be. I'm really hoping a true thirdgen Camaro enthusiast will buy this car from me. I want it to go to a good home; to someone who can truly appreciate what this car is. Good luck, and happy bidding. If you have questions don't hesitate to email me at the.real.lantesh@gmail.com. Here is a link to a ton of pictures I took this afternoon. I had the Camera setting screwed up during the first batch, which is a shame because the sky was overcast at the time, and the pictures were very clear. Unfortunately they came out with a purplish tint. I took more pictures an hour or so later, but the sun was back out. I did not Armor-All the interior or wax the exterior. I only vacuumed the interior, and did a quick exterior wash for the pictures. I wanted you to see the car the way she really is, not doctored up. All the pictures can bee seen here: http://picasaweb.google.com/the.real.lantesh/IROCZ# If you want any specific picture emailed to you in its full resolution please email me and let me know (the.real.lantesh@gmail.com). On Aug-02-10 at 20:14:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Edit: Ok today 8/2/10 I added the full high resolution images to my Dropbox account. I also got an email asking for engine pictures. I took some tonight after work, and added those as well to both the lower resolution Picasa album, and the Dropbox account. I did not get a chance to clean the engine, so you will see that it looks dusty. Take a good look though. It is just dust and dirt from sitting for over a year. If anyone wants I can clean the engine on Saturday, and take more pictures. Since I can't share a Dropbox folder with everyone I am putting up the individual links to each file. Look at the photos in the Picasa album, and the find the same corresponding file name from the list below for the full resolution Dropbox file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0968.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0969.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0973.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0974.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0975.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0976.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0977.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0978.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0979.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0980.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0981.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0982.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0983.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0984.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0985.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0986.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0987.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0988.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0989.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0990.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0991.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0992.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0993.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0994.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0995.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0996.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0997.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0998.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN0999.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1006.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1007.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1008.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1009.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1010.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1011.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1012.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1013.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1014.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1015.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1016.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1017.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1018.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1019.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1020.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1021.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1022.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1023.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1024.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1025.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1026.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1027.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1028.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1029.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1030.JPG http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8898899/IROC-Z/DSCN1031.JPG
