Vehicle Detail

1975 Hornet Four Door Sedan. No Reserve Auction. Three owner West Coast car. It has lived in Portland, OR, Bainbridge, WA, and now San Jose, CA. One year only Pastel Blue paint with optional sport wheel covers, white vinyl top, white body side moldings and white AMC mud flaps. Great 70's color style gets lots of comments. Current CA registration through June 2011. No smog required for CA registration. Window sticker, owner's manual, brochure, and many service records included. OPTIONS: Loaded with lots of nice options. Besides the optional small V8, this car is equipped with power steering, power drum brakes, air conditioning, tinted glass, am radio, individual reclining seats in "Seville" pattern fabric, visibility group (visor mirror, day/nite mirror, remote control mirror, dual horns, inside hood release, intermittent wipers, clock-quartz conversion), light group (headlights on buzzer, trunk light, glove box light, courtesy lights under dash), modern three point inertia seat belts, and rare rear window defogger (blower type). MECHANICAL:Runs and drives V8 smooth and straight. Always starts with a few pumps of the gas pedal. Small regular gas V8 with 2bbl carb. gets high teens around town, over 20 mpg cruising at highway speeds. Easy passing and merging. Smooth shifts from the AMC's Chrysler sourced automatic transmission. Front end, steering, exhaust, cooling, tires, brakes all inspected with lots of life left. Usual seepage around seals but she drips no fluids. I have used this car as my daily driver for the past six months. Very reliable, easy to service and a pleasure to drive around town or at freeway speeds. EXTERIOR: Solid sheet metal and underside. Some minor surface rust where paint has worn through. All original 70's quality paint. No surprises. Vinyl top replaced two years ago. Top and window surrounds were all rust free. Close inspection reveals the usual patina of little scraps, chips and nicks. Not perfect, but the original paint still shines so nice I chose not to repaint. INTERIOR; Wild upgraded baby blue interior with rare one year only upholstry shows extremely well. All plastics are unfaded with none of the usual cracks or warpage. Car was kept away from the heat and light. Optional diamond pattern fabric (AMC called it "Seville") fitted to individually reclining front seats. Car includes custom fitted front seat covers and a dash protector, both in matching blue. Unused ashtrays still shiny inside. All controls and accessories currently functioning except as noted below. FLAWS: Mechanical: No known mechanical problems except A/C not currently working. Brand new compressor, but lines appear to be clogged. I have attempted a fix twice, but it stops blowing cold after a few hours. Someone with A/C experience could fix with a couple hours labor, but I do not have the skill or resources to open up the dash again. Circuit with clock and courtesy lights recently blew a fuse, but is now working ok. Driver's window rolls down fine, but sticks on each rotation coming back up. One rear door will not lock. Cosmetic flaws exterior: usual nicks and scraps to front of hood, around trunk lock, bumper scraps, some fading to plastic bumper fillers, small dent on leading edge of driver's front fender, one corner of rear rubber bumper filler out of alignment. Cosmetic flaws interior: some scuffs and chips to vinyl headliner, painted surfaces on B pillar and driver's door show some discoloration, steering wheel has typical paint loss (original owner wore a wedding ring), beginning of shiny fabric wear to driver's seat but no wear through or splits (I've kept covered with custom fitted blue velour covers), some compression of padded driver seat, usual heel wear through in driver area carpet only, worn headlight pull switch is lose on stem, rear package tray vinyl covering has a three inch crack. All are usual wear areas and all are easy fixes if you wish to bring the car to #2 condition. Additional close up photos of these flaws are available via email. I'm not a dealer. I'm a collector who has owned many AMC's. This has been my favorite driver to jump in and go. Finances have forced me to sell down my collection this year. Bills are due, so this car will go at a substanial loss. Car available locally so bid early or it may be gone. Inspection encouraged. Questions happily answered. Here is a fun introduction to AMC for very little money. If you love the 70's or want to make a fast sleeper, this car combines rarity, comfort and ease of use at half the price of Chevy Novas, Dodge Darts, Plymouth Dusters or Ford Mavericks.
