1999 Triumph Speed Triple

This bike is unique in that it is the only model year with the late 90's plastic and the fuel injected 955cc engine. It also has the black, powder-coated wheels. The 2000 model they changed to a more bland frame paint, silver wheels, less interesting plastic, and more "modern" decals. I bought this bike new in August of 1999 at Trackstar Motorsports in Minneapolis. At that time I also bought the factory windscreen and the factory clip-on conversion kit. The stock chain (Regina) I had problems with so at around 8000 miles I put on a DID chain with new sprockets. The new sprocket combo (I forget the exact ratio) resulted in a lower overall ratio (less top speed, more wheelie-prone). I also trimmed the rear fender and added an Indigo brand slip-on high pipe. Other than those things mostly I've just done maintenance. It's always had full synthetic oil and factory oil filters. Unfortunately there is one ding in the paint on top of the tank (a fishing rod fell on it in the garage). It also tipped on me in the parking lot which scratched the shifter (I half caught it so the damage was very minimal). Insurance has always been very cheap for me - less than $200 per year for full coverage. I think it's because insurance companies don't clasify it as a "sportbike".
