Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1959 Ford Fairlane/Galaxie 500 Skyliner edition with 64,424 original miles. This vehicle is being sold as a favor and is not on site here in Akron, Ohio, but is relatively local and arrangements can be made to view the vehicle prior to auction completion. After long deliberation the family has decided to part with the family treasure after 32 years of ownership. The need to relocate and a new addition to the family has taken presidence and the decision was made last week to let it go. The Skyliner is a two owner vehicle that was purchased in June of 1978 and has been well cared for ever since. This vehicle had been used primarily as a cruiser and a show car since 1983 and hasn't seen any road time since 2004. The vehicle as shown was upgraded in 1980 when the opportunity came about to acquire a factory Continental kit along with factory fender skirts and a Town and Country seek and scan radio. At this time, the vehicle was repainted and started its life as a weekend cruiser, doing a variety of local cruise in's and auto shows. Outside of the factory upgrades, the entire vehicle is original except for an upgraded distributor. This 59' Skyliner has the factory 352 300hp V8 police interceptor motor and has never been rebuilt. The scope of work that has been done to the motor is as follows: Valve cover gaskets have been replaced, timing chain and gears as well as motor mounts have been replaced and the oil pan has been switched out. The transmission is the 3 speed cruise-o-matic which is original but has some issues. It is unsure if the issues reside with the vehicle sitting for the past 6 years or so, but the tranny doesn't seem to work well in reverse. The transmission will operate in short distances, while feathering the gas, but doesn't create enough torque to say back the vehicle up an incline. It has been suggested that the reverse bands in the tranny need adjusted but neither myself or the owner have the background to confirm this as a resolution to the problem. The vehicle is Corinthian White with Wedgewood Blue interior all of which is in rather good condition. The front seat as can be seen in the pictures will need recovered, the rears are quite serviceable as they are. The paint is in very good condition and shows very well. There are a few area's that will need some attention, but the vehicle is rust free and has never had body work done to it in the 32 years of ownership. The areas of the car that need attention are minor and can be e-mailed to you upon request. The chassis is solid, and to my amazement looks better than most you see today on vehicles with similar mileage regardless of age. The exhaust pipes will need replaced as well as the poly 4 ply tires. The retractable top operates flawlessly and some motors still have the inspection tags still attached. There is some clicking as the top retracts into the trunk leading me to believe that it may need to be calibrated, but it will eventually stop and the trunk lid will then be seated properly. To cap off the basics, I will hit on all the other points of interest that I noticed while inspecting the vehicle. The storage tub in the trunk is complete and intact as well as the factory jack. All wheel wells and floor pans appear to be solid, I actually stood in the rear of the vehicle and had no feeling of the pans giving way under my feet. The vehicle comes with padded visors and a padded dash, day night rear view mirror, and all glass is factory and in very good condition. There's a very minor chip in the center of the windshield. Windows all operate as intended and move easily and freely. All emblems including both Thunderbird V8 fender emblems are intact. The vehicle has rear back up lights with the wiring harness to allow operation when the lights are on. Electric clock, electric wipers, power steering, exhaust deflectors, bumper guards and sun-ray wheel covers are all present. There is a 59' service manual as well as an owners manual that will convey with the sale. It's worth noting that the owner states that he still has the original distributor in a box that will convey with the sale if located. Also it is believed that one of the drivers side headlights are original and work. The aftermarket radio is c-clamped and can be easily removed, the dash panel has not been tampered with. Obviously it is impossible to hit all the ins and outs of the vehicle and I'm sure some questions will come up, so feel free to email your questions and I will do my best to answer them or track down the answers for you. I have a pretty solid library of photos so I will send other pictures upon request. There will be a $1,000 paypal deposit needed at auction close and the balance to be arranged prior to pick up. Please contact me as soon as possible to arrange pick up. The owners would prefer that the vehicle is removed from premises as soon as possible. We can discuss at closing. Thanks for looking and good luck. Please only bid if you intend to buy, I do reserve the right to end this auction early but I do prefer the true auction format, I feel it will give a true market value of the vehicle and gives all the same opportunity.
