Vehicle Detail
Hello, What you are looking at today is a 2 owner 1980 Mercedes 450SL with only 54,558 miles. We have a large factory in the Atlanta area where we build vans for people in wheelchairs. Therefore we deal with many older customers. Sometimes these older customers have interesting cars to trade in on their wheelchair van and in many instances these trade ins have low mileage. This car is a very good example of a great original car that has done very little mileage. I personally collect older Jaguars but have had many SLs over the years and as many of you know, 1980 is the last and the best of the 450SL series. They have better AC (this one blows ice cold) and runs better and more efficiently than earlier models. This car has lived in Englewood Florida all its life until it was brought to Atlanta a few months ago. It is Turquoise metallic in color with Tan leather (not Vinyl). The original owner died and the eldest son had the car for a number of years. It sat in his carport most of the time but was driven religiously each month even if just for a few miles. The car has done a real 54,558 miles as of today. It runs and drives great. When we got it we did new brakes all around. We also replaced the front wheel bearings and a couple of deteriorated front bushings and charged the AC. This car has original paint which is faded. It does have a perfect HARDTOP (which is not in the photos but goes with the car and it in excellent condition without the bent chrome trim that usually happens when these are stored flat). The body is in very good condition and is beautiful and original underneath. It only has alittle crusty on the bottom edge of right front fender (very minor and not structural). The Convertible top is Navy blue and is the original one. It is still in good condition with only a small tear near right rear quarter window (hardtop has been on the car 99% of this car's life). The interior is really really nice. The dash is NOT cracked and has no cover or anything. The door panels and carpet are really great and leather seats are super as they have had these sheepskins on them for years and years and have not seen much if any sun. I have taken a picture of drivers seats edge and they are still soft. It has it's original alloys with good firestone radials on them. This car could be driven ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME. These are tough cars. I put my oldest son (now 41) through high school and college in one of these. They are safe like a tank and don't break (like my beloved British cars)..I admit it....Like most British car lovers, I too have a Mercedes E320 wagon so I have something I can depend on running. I really don't think you could find a more original, un messed with car than this one. You will definately be happy with it and if you come see it, you will buy it. Should be good, inexpensive enjoyment for many years to come. Good luck bidding.....Bob
