Vehicle Detail
1981 Honda GL 500 Silverwing - 6156 Original Miles Treat yourself to a fun, flexible and accomodating motorbike. This Honda Silverwing is a unique light touring motorcycle. It features a visually stunning transverse mounted V-Twin engine which is liquid cooled. Power is delivered to the rear wheel via a five-speed transmission and maintenance free shaft drive. Adding to the list of trailblazing advancements on this 1981 Model is a rear monoshock suspension arrangement. The comfy seat, windshield and air-ride suspension make this an effortless and compliant light touring motorcycle for the open road... or a zippy, in-town runabout. Experienced riders and novices will be satisfied with this machine's easy manner. I am well over 6 feet tall and I feel comfortable as I ride, but a rider who is not as tall as I am will also feel confident with this light and manueverable two-wheeler which features a relatively low seat. Gearing is set up in a way that makes it work well in city or suburban traffic as well as extended highway speeds. Sure... the generous seating and handlebar position make you feel like you are lounging in your easy chair - but don't the mag wheels, V-twin engine and smooth styling make you feel a little dangerous at the same time? Please have a look at the pictures. This machine is quite clean and has been cared for and stored inside. With a pull of the choke and a push on the start button it has started every time. The bike has a nick here and there and some patina that is evident in the pictures. It looks like a 29 year old motorcycle. It has not been dropped or wrecked. It has not been painted. Lights, horn, starter, clocks, signals and anything else actuated by a button or lever is working. Alll systems are go. Battery is good. The tires are new. Brakes and clutch are working fine. Shaft drive has a grease nipple that makes maintenance easy compared to a chain and sprocket. Coolant is added to an overflow resevoir just like your car. The suspension is a standard affair with twin forks up front and a monoshock in the rear. There is an "Air Assist" system that can be filled with air, front and rear, to fine tune the ride and adjust for heavier passenger or luggage loads. I noticed that after filling the air system up in front and rear that it loses pressure in subsequent readings. So the system is apparently losing pressure but I am not an expert in these matters and I could not locate the source of the problem. Features Front Brakes: Single disc, twin pot caliper. Rear Brakes: Drum Side and center stand equipped. Gas tank has locking cap accessed with ignition key. OEM Rear top case in matching paint. Cruise Control. Tracy brand "Road Warrior" Windscreen equipped. Other Items Included Clymer Service Manual Pillion Seat: This seat replaces the top case on the rear of the motorcycle. It is a factory item as is the top case. The key for the topcase releases two levers that are turned to pop the seat or case off of the rear. The process is reversed to attach the desired accessory. It is all very nifty.
