Vehicle Detail
1969 Pontiac Firebird Convertible This listing is for a 1969 Pontiac Firebird convertible which is in the middle stages of restoration. See, here is the deal. . . I bought the car in February of 2009 off of a guy from Jacksonville, FL. As told, he had the car for 8 years prior to me, and he bought it off of the guy who restored it in 1999. I just got laid off of my job. Originally, when laid off I had considered making it my daily driver to keep from selling it, but the grim reality is... it just isn't practical as a daily driver. I started with the tired 350 engine, I replaced it with a torque monster 455 cu in big block Pontiac engine which I completely rebuilt from the ground up. 455 motor and Turbo 350 transmission came out of a 1972 Firebird. The engine has all new gaskets and seals, as well as new polished powder coated Edelbrock Performer Intake, Holley Street Avenger carb, new Champion aluminum multi-core radiator w/dual electric fans, new spark plug wires, new quick ratio 2.5:1 power steering gear box, new radiator hoses, new power steering hoses, chrome Edelbrock valve covers and air cleaner cover The motor and trans are in good shape. The transmission comes with a shift kit that shifts nice and hard. I just got the motor back in the car. It is not ready to crank yet. It has a few minor things that need done prior to getting the car running, including hooking up exhaust. I have the original exhaust manifold, which can be hooked back up, HOWEVER... I brought a brand new set of Hedman headers that have been coated and will sell WITH the car if the Buy It Now is reached. I do not have the money to buy the custom exhaust that I had planned on, so it will be your choice as the buyer. I may try to finish the minor details to crank it before the auction ends, but I am focusing on finding work right now, so this is on the back burner. If it reaches the Buy It Now, I will also include the original 350 small block with the 350 tranny, AND an additional 350 Pontiac engine that I acquired during the restoration. The codes of interest for the 455 are as follows: Date Code: K092 November 9, 1972 Casting Number: 485428 1972 (455 c.i.d.) #485428 (8.3:1 cr) 455/215, 250hp 4X** CUBIC INCHES BORE(inches) Stroke(inches) Main Dia.(inches) Rod Dia.(inches) 455 4.15000 4.2100 3.250 2.250 Now for the interior... I have replaced virtually all of the red interior, including the front and rear seat covers, new carpet, sunvisors, rear seat panels, kick panels, newly painted console, brand new 1/2 wrap Billet Steering wheel, and new convertible top boot. The exterior has remained the same since I purchased it, I had not began the exterior restoration, but it is in very good shape. The car was restored in 1999, including new body panels, rear quarter panels, rear spoiler, front chin spoiler, etc. It will need paint and some love to get it dialed in as a show car, but the car makes an excellent daily driver as/is Other details include, BRAND NEW Spaghetti Engineering LED taillights which are very cool. (about $350 retail), and all of the chrome headlight bezels, parklight bezels, side mirrors, rear taillight chrome were polished to a nice shine. The "PONTIAC" logo on the taillight panel, the "455" emblems on the hood, and several other chrome pieces are BRAND new. This car has THOUSANDS of dollars in new parts included either on or with the car upon sale. NEW PARTS INCLUDE Seat covers- front/rear Carpet Front kick panels Seat back panels Door pull straps Sunvisors Quarter window weather stripping Door lock knobs 1/2 wrap Billet Steering wheel Spaghetti Engineering rear LED sequential taillights Champion Aluminum Multi-Core Radiator Aluminum Radiator Shroud Dual Electric Fan Edelbrock Polished Powder Coated Performer Intake Holley Street Avenger Carb New Battery New Exhaust Gaskets Valve Cover Gaskets Oil Pump Gasket Fuel Pump Gasket Rear Main Seal Transmission Seals (front & rear) Oil Pan Gasket Intake Manifold Gasket Oil Filter Air Filter Steering Gearbox Power Steering Hoses Spark Plugs Spark Plug Wires Chrome "455" emblems for hood Chrome Firebird emblem for rear quarter Chrome "PONTIAC" letter emblem for rear taillight panel I am SURE I am forgetting some stuff, but I can add more later. On Jun-30-10 at 07:18:59 PDT, seller added the following information: Some additional info: -The car has a torque thrust style wheel with red painted centers and Pontiac center caps. I have the original Pontiac Rally's that will be included if the Buy It Now is met. The front tires are in decent condition, but the rear tires are in poor condition. I had planned on purchasing 18" Boss 338's for the car, so I had been driving on these until the engine swap was complete. -If the Buy It Now is met, I will be including EVERYTHING I have that I have accumulated with this car. 2 extra engines (both 350-one is original), one 350 turbo transmission, 1 original radiator, multiple odds/ends, brackets, 2 extra intakes, 1 rochester carb. So, not only will you need a trailer to get the car home, please bring a truck to assist me in cleaning out my garage. -The car spent 8 years in Jacksonville, FL before it came to the Charlotte area, however it was restored by a guy in Missouri prior to the guy in FL buying it. While the car was painted around 1999, the clear coat in a few spots around the hood, so I had planned on repainting it, but it is fine for a daily driver and still draws TONS of compliments. -The convertible top is in decent "driver" quality condition, water tight, but the rear window is a little smoky. In the photos, the original interior is shown... I have since recovered the seats, but they have not been bolted back in the car. -I will be going to the beach next Monday (the 5th)... the evening the auction ends, but I will be coming back on Thurs (the 8th)... so pickup can be arranged at that time. Or if you use Buy It Now, it can be picked up prior to the 5th. By placing a bid, you are entering into a contract to buy this car. Please do not bid if you dont have the money, or have to "talk to your wife". Buyer must submit a $2,000 deposit via PAYPAL or in person within 24 hours of the auction end. Non-paying bidders are subject to legal action to be carried out in North Carolina. Car is sold AS/IS. No warranty provided. Car is located in Mooresville, NC and can be viewed prior to auction end by contacting Jeff @ 704-239-5553 On Jun-30-10 at 11:20:18 PDT, seller added the following information: I am also willing to offer a lower "Buy It Now" for bidders who are out of town (needing the car shipped) and are not interested in the extra motors/transmission/ and extra parts. Contact me for more details. However, please notify your shipper that the car is not running. On Jul-03-10 at 08:44:23 PDT, seller added the following information: Revised $11K Buy It Now, does not include the additional 350 c.i. engine.
