Vehicle Detail

A/C, power steering and brakes. Good condition (except for the original paint), runs well, doesn't burn or leak oil or antifreeze. Head gasket is fine. Engine was most likely rebuilt at some point before I bought it in 11/03 with 157K miles. The odometer broke at 159K just before moving to Miami in 08/04. Approximately 20K miles added in the past 6 years. I have receipts, mostly from '05 and '06 for replacing the clutch, slave cylinder, water pump, front and rear brakes, master cylinder, CV boots, major tune up, etc. A/C: works, but needs R-134a charge, new compressor at purchase. VW specialist shop replaced the high pressure line and modified the system with a separate fan switch which keeps the condensor fan on high speed when using the A/C. Original rheostadt still works for the temperature (coolness). Other improvements include: short shift kit with an extension rod (instead of reaching and rowing) and bushings/couplings, window tinting, a 2000 watt inverter, 2nd camping battery, GoWesty 16" wheels and Michelin Hydroedge tire package ($1100), roof seals, heavy rubber mats, new skylight, window vent rain shields, convex mirrors, center console (not bolted down), water pressure reducer and fresh tank filler hose attachment, etc. 13 gallon fresh water tank. 3 gallon propane, doesn't leak. Camper came with sliding window screens, back hatch screen, skylight screen/cover, all around window curtains, front and rear tables (they're in the closet). With the swiveling front seats turned around you can have the smaller front table between the middle bench facing forward for one seating arrangement. Or you could face the middle bench rearward with the long table in between the rear bench. The fridge worked on all 3 modes, ac, propane and battery and it actually kept ice cubes in the little original trays. I think it may need a new piezzo starter (like a flint for spark) to get the propane pilot lit. The 2 burner stove works well though. The tent was damaged a bit (I duct taped it) by a mouse when it sat for 2 years (although it was started and moved occassionally). The sliding door curtain also has a hole. I used an XM radio boombox in lieu of the aftermarket radio which was dead. Another minor negative is the front fan motor quit (big job), but the rear heat (under the bench) and it's 3 speed fan (blows forward) works well. For those of you who aren't familiar with these campers... the A/C blows forward from the rear outlets above the rear bench. There are also fresh air outlets on either end of the dash and a few above the sliding side door. Then there are swiveling vent windows and sliding open/close air extractors in the front doors. The seam rust above the propane controls is typical and had been repaired once, but bubbled through again. The rear bumper is pretty cheap and plentiful. I backed into a telephone pole hiding behind a bush! :-( I have the rub strip for it. The end caps are cheap too. There are many aftermarket sites for these... including www.gowesty.com, www.busdepot.com, www.vanagain.com, etc. Enthusiast groups, blogs, you name it, you'll find it out there. Engine conversions are plentiful too. www.subagon.com, www.vanaru.com, www.greaseworks.org, and on and on. The transmission is good in this, but I did grind down 3rd a bit when my slave cylinder leaked out at the same time I had to get an injured friend home to rebandage his bleeding foot. Argh!!! :-/ It's fine when you let the syncros catch up and gently place it into 3rd. Otherwise a short harmless grind will happen. Tranny's are fairly cheap ($300 used) plus labor if it makes you nervous. I averaged 16-18 mpg city and as much as 21 hwy. It's peppy and torquey enough to keep up with traffic and is very comfortable and stable with the power steering and the larger tires and wheels. I will include them (or put them on) if the reserve is met. The 14" Continental 8 ply truck tires are okay too though. I have the 5th spare of those. Van is located in Palmetto Bay, FL 33157 (south of Miami), but can be picked up in Port St Lucie, FL 34953 if necessary. Also, I will pick you up at Miami, Ft Lauderdale/Hollywood, or Palm Beach International airports. Feel free to ask questions before bidding. Thanks!
