Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Before I begin, let me say this car is titled and licensed as a 1915 but I believe that it’s truly a 1916. The original engine, pictured on the rolling stand, is dated 6-18-16, with the car’s serial number of 1288988. This serial number does correspond with factory production of June 1916. Of course, this error can be easily rectified if the buyer desires. This is a very original, honest Model T and it both starts and drives great. I’ve been told that this is an original Salem, Oregon car, first purchased at Valley Motors, and has never left the Salem. In approximately 1959, a group of guys – Stan Forrest, Hiram Amick and Roy Taylor, helped Len Holman get this car out of a barn and onto a trailer after purchasing it in Roberts, Oregon, just outside of Salem. Len, with more assistance from his friends, restored the car and enjoyed it both on the road and when parked in his den. The original registration accompanies the car and is dated 1963, likely after Len completed the restoration. And, of course, the original engine goes with the car. Also included is the pair of 1915 Oregon license plates. The engine in the car has a starter and the generator mounting has a block-off plate, however I do have a generator. The engine runs incredibly well and I have taken it on trips well beyond short errands and city travel. A battery box on the right running board, and of course the magneto is hot for both starting and driving. Electric lights and horn work, and the Hand Klaxon works better. The step plates are, I believe, old reproductions done at the time of the restoration. This Touring car also has a hand wiper, inside rear view mirror, Hassler Shocks and a Ruckstell. The interior is nice, but a couple of upholstery buttons have gone astray. The rear floor has the correct jute mate, and the front floor has the correct rubber mat on top of the original wood. The wheels are demountable – and very solid, an upgrade from the original, and definitely nicer if a flat tire is experienced. The radiator has zero issues or leaks, but I must say that the old Ruckstell does provide a spot on the garage floor. I would say this is a very nice, very presentable and reliable driver, with patina from a 50-year-old restoration and no reproduction metal. It even smells like an old car. I would invite those interested to take her for a spin. On Jun-05-10 at 20:26:31 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer questions I've been receiving: The engine appears to be 1920 - serial number 3978423. Also, the original block may appear to have a crack in the photo, but it's the paint or the photo. I don't know the condition of the original engine, but do know Les Holman (the owner from '59 thru 2004) preferred a starter as he got older (like most), so that's the main reason it has a newer engine. When I got it, it had just been tuned up by the local Model T expert, restorer and go-to-guy. I think the oil cap on it is an extra he had from his '10 T. I took the generator off the car to clean up the engine compartment. It also had a voltage regulator and an 8-volt battery, and the battery wouldn't charge. My bet was that it wasn't set up properly for 8-volt, and I didn't want unnecessary drag anyway, so I removed it. Of course, the generator, voltage regulator and the battery go with the car. It also has side curtains rolled up in a tube. I've never looked at them and presume they're not great. The tail light is wired for the brake light. I also installed a draft deflector under the floor board. The choke knob appears to be a repro, but the firewall escutcheon is totally original. Under that is appears to have once had a clock - or something round. The right rear fender does exhibit a historic repair just under the lip, with two additional rivets. I actually like it, and point it out to people to let them know it's not a Rootlieb product. I also forgot to mention that the horn button on the steering column and such is all there. Also present are the old leather tie down straps for the top, rolled up in the saddles. Again, everything's there and it's not a show car but does what it's supposed to do. My longest trip has been 100 miles, and no problems. I forget to mention it needs a very small spacer for the right rear wheel, causing an interimittent squeak on some left turns. Not an emergency by any means, but a weary passenger may notice. Again, if anyone needs photos at all, just let me know. Thanks, Jerry On Jun-06-10 at 19:14:30 PDT, seller added the following information: A few folks have had questions, so here's more info: - the wheels are 30 x 31/2 demountables, with new nuts and bolts - I've uploaded picture of the right rear fender repair that exhibits a repairs with rivets - I've also uploaded a picture of a hole repair in the top. All else is nice, included the top saddle leather and tie-down straps - I've also provided a picture of the rear of the front set to show the robe rail - Also included is an oil petcock rod and a Model T hub puller Also, I can store the car for a couple of weeks and be here for pick-up if transporting. Of course, I look forward to meeting the lucky winner! If anyone else needs anymore pics or info, just let me know. Thanks, Jerry
