Vehicle Detail
This is a gorgeous 1988 Jaguar XJS and it would take very little for it to be a great show car. My wife and I bought this Jag on Ebay in 2004. We then hopped a plane to Chicago and drove it home to Connecticut with no problems on the trip. This car is great for long rides and the trip home was one of the most enjoyable we've ever had. It was a blast and we averaged 20 mpg for the trip! Whenever we are out in this car heads turn and people stop and ask us about it. I've never owned a car like this before and it has been quite a wonderful experience. But unfortunately our time together with this amazing car must come to an end........its time for a change and my wife and I are downsizing, with the kids grown and off on their own we have decided to try and simplify (those our my wifes words). That being said let me tell you what I've done to the car and what I think it needs. The winter of 2005 I replaced the water pump and since the radiator was out I had it recored, and I added Gano coolant filters in the radiator hoses. The engine runs great with no issues, transmission shifts fine and the brakes work well. There are oil leaks but I've yet to see a Jag this vintage that didn't. Lately I've noticed the power steering pump starting to whine (it may be low on fluid). All electrical works! Lights, wipers, radio, trip computer, horn, buzzers, etc, etc. all work (AC needs charging blows warm and the aftermarket phone is all there but I never had it on my plan so I don't know if it works). The automatic shoulder belt motors work sporadically so I just use the lap belts. That being said, I do disconnect the battery when the car isn't being used, it is Lucas wiring after all. The body is signal red and the paint shines really nice, its not faded or oxidized. There are a couple of small dime size dings on top of the right front fender, and a scratch on the lower right rear valance (see pics). There is also some light rust on the floors under the rugs but no rust through or rot. Inside the black leather is near perfect, no rips, or seams separated. The wood is all beautiful but the piece on the console has varnish cracking, it will look better after sanding and fresh varnish. The headliner is falling down in back and coming off the sunroof cover (common with these) most auto upholstery shops fix these easy. The original rugs are getting pretty tattered, they could be saved if you want to clean them up and re-stitch the edging, but new ones can be found on ebay pretty cheap. The previous owner put Goodyear Aquatracs on for tires and they still look good, I've never driven in the rain so the feature is lost on me. The original jack and tool bag are in the trunk and I'm not sure they've ever been used. We love this beautiful car but we've owned it for five years and only put 4000 miles on it. I can't put into words how much fun this car is to drive, we enjoyed every moment we spent driving this car and will miss it dearly. These V12 Jags run better when they are driven regularly and we just don't have the time to take it out. The original owners manual is in the glove box and has the dealer service records in it from the POs. When I bought the car I bought and read the factory manuals and Kirby Palm's manual (found on the Jaglovers website) and I've done my own service. Manuals, catalogs and CD included in sale. If you ever wanted to experience the smooth power of a V12, the Jaguar V12 is the best bargain out there. Look at the pictures and ask questions before bidding. Negative or 0 feedback bidders please contact me before you bid or your bid will be canceled. Buyer responsible for all shipping charges. The car will not be released until all payments have cleared. We have this car listed locally so we reserve the right to end this auction early if it sells.
