Here is a prime example of what the Mercedes W140 project was all about. With over $1 Billion in development cost, it is to this date the most costly automotive undertaking ever. The result is sure to impress, I mean people will come up and ask you about the car. Sold for over $100,000 in the early 90s(that’s over 200k in today’s dollars), you can be sure no expense was spared – the car was classed together with the Bentleys and Rolls Royce’s of the world. With features like double-pane security glass, suction doors, and power rear view mirror, you will immediately feel pampered. Exotic wood and leather throughout – even a wood steering wheel which cost $849. The previous owner was a MB mechanic and took good care of it. I’ve since enjoyed it for over a year with no problems. Gets much more attention than my 2002. This is the last year of top quality and abundance of luxury for Mercedes. Anyone I talk to is nostalgic about it, and very appreciative of the condition this car is in. They were built to last. It was very well repaired - shows no signs of damage 12 years later. Everything including all glass is original MB. The car has tinted glass and all black lower panels (instead of the two-tone). It is a large car, over 6 feet wide and 17 feet long… extravagant for a two door. The rear tail lamps were also updated with clear OEM signals ($950). The Classic-Mercedes Catalog mentions the C140 as one of the timeless symbols of German-engineering. About the name: The S500 was originally named 500SEC in '91 and was changed to S500 Coupe in ’94. During the Chrysler years they called it a CL-Class, which is now being changed back to S-Class Coupe, turning the Mercedes image in the right direction. This is a 15-year old car but looks and drives like a 5 year old. Imperfections include a couple minor spots on the body, a few chips and wheels scuffs.
