Vehicle Detail
I am selling this rare DeSoto for my friend, Bill. He will gladly answer any questions by calling: (518) 424-5611 days or (518) 864-5803 nights, 5pm-9pm EST This is a 1958 DeSoto Firesweep Sportsman, one of the great auto stylist Virgil Exner's finest designs. It is a four-door hardtop, meaning once the windows are down, there are no frames left on the doors, I.E. it is not a post car. Further, it has power windows. It also has a very rare, working, rear window defroster. This car still has its original 350 cubic inch big block wedge engine! The engine runs great, with no knocks, or smoke. It has a brand new, complete dual exhaust system, from the engine all the way to the back bumper, and it sounds like a tiger. The transmission is a three-speed, push button automatic. The seatcovers are new, and the glass is in good shape. It has its original hubcaps and wheels, and the tires are nice. The floors, frames, and trunk floors are very solid, other than the floors having been patched in the past, and the edges of the metal are starting to rust underneath, as the pictures show. The body is very sound, with a few small rusty areas. The brakes don't work, but brake components are very cheap and easy to come by for this car. The car rolls nicely, with no frozen drums, or other impediments. I have described the weak points of this car as best I can, and provided pictures of the rusty areas. All I have done is clean the car, and run the engine. I was going to restore this DeSoto, but I just have too many projects on my plate right now. This car needs a restoration, but it would be a fairly easy one. It was registered, insured and on the road in 2004, when it was driven regularly. Sheetmetal is available for patching this car, and it is inexpensive. I have the title, so you can register this car right away without any problems. Here's your chance to own a big fin, Forward Look, rare DeSoto with some unusual options for a cheap price! Thank you for bidding!
