1982 Mercedes-Benz 300D Second owner. Purchased from neighbor when his father-in-law passed away (original owner from new). I purchased it as a daily driver to keep the miles off my Carrera 4. It has served me well. I have decided to sell the Carrera and this car, and purchase an MB SL 500. I continue to use the 300D as a daily driver and travel the 18 miles from home to Mechanicsville each day for work. While I bought it to be a daily driver, it became a restoration project, and for me that was a lot of fun. In terms of the cost I would have incurred if I had not done all the work myself, the investment would be around $9,000. I have all records of the work performed and the cost of materials available. Have all purchase and service records since new. 216,000 miles on the odometer, clear title, this vehicle has a fuel injected five cylinder diesel engine with turbo, matched to a four speed automatic transmission. The engine and transmission are in pretty good condition considering the vehicle is 28 years old, but I have not addressed the oil leaks (they're not bad enough). Never involved in an accident although it has been repainted; the quality of the repaint work is fair. A couple of small spots of rust, but considering its age, the body is in otherwise pretty good condition. This is not a high horsepower, high torque vehicle. It pulls strongly, but the 300D is not a fast car off the mark. Having said that, it cruises very comfortably at 70 mph with the turbo in operation and is quite responsive. Cracked front dash replaced; replacement in good condition. Replaced the radiator grille, MB star, fog lamps and headlamps w/enclosures. Recently replaced both front tie rods. Recently replaced exhaust system and all mufflers. Michelin tires with good remaining life; rims in great condition. Passed VA State Inspection 5-1-10
