Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1922 Ford Model T depot hack. This vehicle runs well and has been a pleasure for our family on rides through the private roads in our neighborhood. Railroads were spreading across the country and resort and hotels needed a means for transporting the passengers and their luggage to and from the Railroad depot hacks. The 'depot hack' was the solution. The original depot hacks were horse-drawn wagons with seating to carry the passengers and a canvas covering to protect them from the elements. The wagons were later replaced with automobiles. Their body designs were often referred to as Express Wagons, Wagonette, Depot Wagon and Depot Hacks. This vehicle was lovingly restored by my father about ten years ago. He built this body out of Oak and South American hardwoods and features a naugahyde leather roof and tuck and rolled seats. This Model T has Made in Canada stamped on the radiator shell. The sheet metal appears to be correct for a 1922 model. The engine has 1917 stamped on it and the serial number 106902 which is listed in book "Model T Ford" and confirms that the engine is a 1917 engine. Being a 1917 engine means this vehicle has no electric starter or generator. I just finished freshening up the engine with new piston rings, wrist pins, and wrist pin bushings the engine is .040 over and has cast iron pistons. Tightened up the rod and main bearings and added oil dippers to the rods and resealed the engine. I put new bands in the transmission. My father had replaced the u-joint in the driveline and performed some repairs to the rear differential. My father is no longer with us so I am not sure what repairs he did there. Carburetor has been rebuilt and has a new fuel tank. Engine features an aftermarket water pump. Tires are Firestone and have some small age cracks. She runs well, and will fire up with just a quarter of a turn once you prime her first. Two weeks ago I fired up this Tin Lizzy and drove it two miles to this location for the pictures you see here. I made the mistake of filling the radiator to the top so true to her nature after pulling two steep hills she puked some coolant on the ground when I stopped. This car is about 90% restored still needs some work to be finished. The wiring harness for the lights is missing, the spring shackles are worn and need replaced, but four new ones are included with the car there are some other odds and ends that are needed. Also included and in the toolbox on the running board is a set of tools. These tools my father collected with some of the wrenches having the Ford logo on them. This is great vehicle for someone who wants a piece of history, an already running car and wants an easy project that they can finish the little details and have then have fun taking it to car shows, parades, and driving down the country lanes. I am losing the place to store this vehicle so I have to sell it. Good luck and fun bidding.
